Steveo's DIY sump

Well after looking it over with my uncle neither of us feel comfortable with cutting the front brace with the tank on it.

We have figured out to get a tank in it has to be 20x12 max so that is a 15 gallon high. Doesn't make sense for me to only use a 15 gallon.

And if I'm going to move the tank, I have to empty the tank, if I'm emptying the tank I'm getting a different tank.

You'll be fine cutting the front brace out... put the bracing in and do it when you do your next 20 percent water change to lighten the load a bit, and as soon as you get the sump in there put it back. If it's only glued in now, you'll want to pre-drill for your screws and you'll have to toe them in. I would use a multi-max side cutter or be really careful with a sawzall.

So I'm still throwing around the idea of a new tank.

But at the same time, I'm thinking of a way to make this work.

48in tank.

1 15 gallon high and 1 10 gallon tank using a bulkhead to supply water from one to the other. Use the 10 gallon tank strictly for a skimmer then the 15 gallon tank divided into 2 parts. Refugium and return pump?

Opinions?
