Sump/ stock tank question

I have been playing with the idea of getting a stock tank to serve as the sump for a few smaller display tanks. My question is if my water volume in the stock tank is considerably more than the individual displays should I just T the return and try to match the overflow rate . Or is there something simple that I'm missing?

Just put a valve on the displays so you can dial it all in. Where they are they will all have a different head pressure. The ones closer to the pump will needc dialed down so that you have equal flow throughout.
