Temperature Flucatuations In Tank Water

Does anyone get temperature fluctuations of 4-5 degrees in their tank water?

Is this normal? & Will a 4-5 degree changes from time to time stunt coral growth in any shape or form?

I noticed these fluctuations because sometimes my tank water feels warmer, and other times more cooler feeling.

My usual temeprature range is 75-80 degrees F range usually. I read today 75 one day and another day 80 degreen F.

So it this natural or too much?

Question is why i guess ..
that big of a swing happening too fast would definetly stress coral and stress fish more ..

ohhh, now that i think it, may have been because the water was a bit low and i had to top off, so the water was a bit warmer than usual... if it happens again ill update this....

Its fine if its happening gradually. Room and lights get warmer during the day, so tank temp goes up. That happened alot when I had a nano during the day.
The easy fix is either a fan over the tank to turn on during light hours.
The other fix is to increase your baseline temp so its closer to the temp when your tank is at its warmest, which will lower your temp swing. So just make your tank warmer by upping your heater temp.

I have the same problem. 76 to 80 swings. I think its more my heater. I have it set to 82 and its on like 24/7 but will never reach 82. If I do turn it down my tank drops to like 74. I know I need a better heater. Anyways im sure these swings stress the tank out, more sps

also depends on what tank size and whats the wattage of the heater ..

if you do a 150 watt heater on a 75 gallon tank ... it would never be able to heat up the tank but would always be on cause it never reached set temp .. even worse if you set up this with a controller... controller thinks heater is broke and would turn it off completely

if your tank is always within .1 degree, a swing of 4 degrees each way in a day may stress things out. but if it happens all the time i dont think its a big deal

so far it was at 78 degrees F stable all today; noticed no fluctuations... the tip of the heater was above the water surface. so i completely submerged it fully under the water, not sure if that will make a difference..but its worth a try.

also have water topped my water....fill to the brim..going to make sure its always filled to the brim.

Will update if any odd fluctuations happens again.

None this morning either....still at 78 degrees F, so its looking good.

All I changed was fillling tank to brim and completely having heater submerged in tank, if that would make any difference.

Still will wait to see within the week when it does this crazy dramatic change in temperature if it will happen again. Might have been to do with my water levels was kind of lower than usual and the heat from the lights had a bigger effect on the water temperature......

cuz all im seeing now is stable temperature.
