Ok.. i thought i would make a post about tips and tricks ..or anything helpfull that would helpout your fellow reefer (LOL REEFER) even if it might sound insignificant to you might be the time saver another might have been looking for

ill start...lets try and keep this going

Thanks Reefers (LOL REEFER)

you can use a womans nylon stocking for a medium bad (charcol....phosguard...ect) I i was told to use only the non dyed one tan not black

Another basic tip i found while dooing water changes is that you can syphon the water out of the tank in to a bucket... but instead of dumping the water back or syphoning it back you can use a pump such as a rio 1500 ect... to pump the water back in ... i can now do a water change in 3 mins i know basic but i never thought of it ... hence the point of this thread

I use a small shop-vac to to suck all the junk and water out of my skimmer section for water changes. I then drop the pump for my ATO into the 5 gallon jug to slowly refil the sectionwith fresh salt water. My WC take less then 10 minutes.

all noobs should read my sig line. -required reading- i put that there for a reason :p

keep skimmer clean
turkey baste rocks regularly
remove detritus WHEREVER it is

your rocks collect detritus as good as anything else in your tank, it will just sit in there and rot. take a baster/small pump, and blast the rocks, try and get in every nook and cranny. you'll be amazed at all the filth that comes out the first time you do it. do it all the time and its one less rotting pile in your tank

i use the turkey baster on the rocks but also use it to feed the fish.. double purpose its also nice feeding dendros...and swatting away shrimp trying to steal the food while feeding dendros

Buy an ro/di unit, never dose without testing, and automate as much as possible. Fail safes are key. Randomly check equipment for stray voltage.

Don't warm your wayterchange water before adding salt. Helps reduce calcium precipitate.

If u have an aio tank. Its good to take all media out, drain all water and remove detritus from sump area. Easy to do without exposing corals or disrupting the flow of things. :)

use dollar store cheapo gel super glue to mount your frags. Use more than you think you should and hold it for 20 seconds.

Stop messing with your tank.

your zoas don't need a name for you to like them.

I had no idea. Good one.

An extra return pump is a good idea for the inevitable pump dying at 9 PM on Christmas Eve. A battery back up or a generator is a nice thing to have around, also, in case of a power loss.

agree with all of these. but only do some . im bad boy. biggest thing is don't get lazy keep up with maintance and u wont run into issues down the road . a little bit a day is better then a lot at end of month.

I turkey baster my sand bed once a week along with rock the next day . I always have ro on hand for emergencies w/c . I unfurtunetly have my hands in tank evey day . steady temp is more more important to fish and coral health imo then people say .

just stay on a schedule with maintance

ato is a must for me . controllers I don't run there nice but imo not neccesary .

biggest tip enjoy your tank . take pride in it
