first tank had no sump so didn't use socks

second tank had sump but never used the socks (i think i still have the ones that came with the sump) the sump was always having to be cleaned

this tank i am using the socks an so far sump is pretty clean, I haven't had the tank running long but will keep using them and see how things go.

Not too far off topic, I prefer the grey toe socks for my sump.

I've never run a sock on my tank. I have them just don't feel the need to use them. I just siphon out detritus that accumulates in the sump every water change.

Take off the filter sock and once a month vacuum out the detritus with this. This is what I use since I have buckets for my wc's
