Water Storage Containers

Would you get 2 larger 250 gallon tanks or 3 smaller 175 gallon tanks?

I noticed that a lot of you are using brute garbage cans but I would need something much larger. A 10% water change would be about 65 gallons at a time. I plan on doing a 20% water change a month. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I need some feed back on my last question.

Please post some pics.

I just bought two 65gal tanks from farm and fleet. I need to setup a water change station.

Hey Matt, I'm now looking at these tanks from Farm & Fleet instead of Brutes. I have a question, can you connect a pvc drain pipe to the fitting on the tank? I'm assuming you got the one with the fitting?

Also, did you ever check out the guy in Hampshire (RW Zeller)? He has a wide assortment of similar tanks as F&F. I just talked to him about getting 2 vertical 40G tanks. He's going to get back to me with a price. If it's less than the $108 F&F wants I'll probably go with him.

I haven't used my farm and fleet ones yet. Both tanks can be plumbed with PVC as they come with bulkheads. I got my first 40g from the guy in Hampshire. I wish I would of checked on the 135g vertical tanks before I went to farm and fleet.

So. I'm thinking about using 2x Brute 20 gallon containers for my RO/DI storage and saltwater mixing station. I saw a few posts about these things buckling. Anyone ever heard of this? Also, has anyone ever added a spigot to the bottom of a trashcan?

I have actually seen first hand a brute rip about a 4-5 inch vertical tear. I have never added a spigot to a brute.

Well this scares the crap out of me.

I'm using a 55 gallon barrel food grade which works perfect I believe imo the brute was leaching something into the water

And these cost a ton, from what I recall.

Does anyone know of a good, cheap 20 gallon container I should pick up?

I added a spigot to the bottom of a 5 gal HD bucket. It should work the same for a brute. Just go to your local hardware store and look in their PVC section. The spigot I found is made entirely of PVC. I traced out the size hole to fit the pipe on the bucket and used a skill saw to cut the hole. Make sure to get a gasket for the inside behind the metal ring, the hardest part was finding the right size gasket.

I have a standard 29g glass tank for DI water, gotta get my metal stand back, and will put a 2nd 29g in the lower tray to keep a constant supply of salt mixed as well. I have a 32g brute can I used for cycling dry rock and it takes up more space than both tanks on a stand would take!

Are you able to put a powerhead in your sw resevior to help mix it?

What about a heater? Is everyone heating their saltwater?

I put a power head in from the top. My sump and storage tank are in the basement I never thought about putting a heater in them.

mlreef..

I have a recently set up 440 gal and have a 40gal tank for top off and a 105 for water changes. Bought both from the guy I mentioned earlier in Hampshire...I don't foresee water changes over 105 gal.

The 105 cost me $187/have had the 40 for a long time and forgot what I pd for it.

I have power heads in both tanks and a heater in the 105 to keep water at same temp as tank.
