What happened to this site?

I haven't been on the site in awhile and I gotta say that I'm a little disappointed. What happened?! This used to be a "reef site" but now it seems like its full of crap. I don't care if people have dogs for sale or of your Xbox isn't working. I feel like the admins have let this thing slip away from them. I enjoyed logging in and seeing what's going with the other reefers. It's a shame that the site isn't what it once was.

Just a quick note to the smart *** that tries to reply, "then don't use the site", I'm just voicing my opinion.

Does anyone feel the same?
 
I'm not gonna say dont use this forum but every forum has an off topic forum and if you don't like it ignore it. There is plenty of reef stuff on here and minimal threads that are off topic. it's still a young site don't expect it to be a reef central because it's not. Go on that forum it might please you more.

As you both can see I've been a member as long as you. I have spent many hours on this site and I was voicing my opinion. I've seen the site grow and change. All I'm saying is that it isn't what it once was.
 
I agree that it's not. But just like a person grows and changes do does a site.

I'll continue to use the site in fact I'm probably gonna be giving a bunch of stuff away. I'm gonna be moving next month and I think it's time to take my 125 in a different direction.
 
I think a lot of the "chatter" comes from the fact that this is more of a local community than just a forum. A lot of people are actually meeting each other and getting involved with more than just the reefing side of members. There's nothing wrong with it IMO, but when I saw the Xbox server thread pop up on the trending topics, I just ignored it cause I don't do Xbox. If it said PS3, I probably would have clicked it, lol...

RC has a colder, strictly informational feel because people are so spread out that there isn't a place to get warm and fuzzy. If you truly are disliking the chit-chat community aspect, then maybe CR isn't headed the direction you'd care for, but I don't see it "improving" in your favor.

As always, I like when people voice their opinions! If we were all zombies, what's the fun of that? We'd all scape the same and keep the same coral and fish...blah! Diversity in mind and tank all the way!! :)
 
I know how you feel!!! But the freedom is good and like how anything goes. How much can you actually talk about reefing before it gets boring? You need certain threads to be OT IMO

You are always welcome to start new threads and brake the cycle ;)

I have pictures ready if thread gets crazy today :D:D:D

And this is the main reason I participate more on here than I ever do on RC. Here we've developed friendships and gotten to know folks. On RC, everyone is just a screen name, potential sale or seller. It's impersonal and not fun....and this hobby should be about fun and networking.
 
If anything this site is becoming a warmer "community" site of people with an interest in saltwater hobby as their common link. I've seen this on many local forums. Car sites, photography sites, even gamer sites. We are not just here for REEF and REEF ONLY content. It's a great place to hang out and shoot the sh*t with our buddies we have made. You don't get this same experience from a bigger site like RC or R2R. There is plenty of reef content for your use, and plenty of non reef content you are welcome to ignore if you don't care to read it.
 
I've been on RC for a long time too but I prefer this because it's local. I've met and chatted with many people on here and they're all great. I can't lie, I read the Xbox post because I was having the same problem.
 
As long as things stay in the appropriate forum and "serious reefing" isn't interrupted, then I don't see an issue with anything on here. I think most of you are crazy, but that is an entirely different thread :rofl:

the other site reminds me of a library with a really mean librarian. I might need to get some info there, but I'm not hanging out with my friends there.
 
I would take this site over the RC Nazis for sure. Yeah there is alot of clutter and non reef related topics but I find info in these topics to. If a topic or a person here are not to your liking ignore it or them.
 
Theres still alot of reef talk going on. Nothing wrong with some other fun stuff. We all become friends and this is a way of communicating to other friends. I think the more you use this and get better with reefing, the more off topic stuff you write about because you can't do reefing 24/7
 
When I get together with my friends we talk reefing. We also talk about alot of other crap. Being here is like being with friends. Just with out burning alot of gas, or smelling it for that matter. Baaaahahahahahah
 
I don't c what was wrong with the xbox post it was posted in the proper section and it got people to exchange gamer tags wich in turn knits this community closer toghether.

I never said anything was wrong with it...I did say that if it said PS3, I probably would have clicked it. Even the OP said it was worth clicking because he was having the same issue.
