never been one to just quit something im not good at but i think i might be in over my head with this hobby so when do u know or say its time to get out and let it be that thing u just cant do.

When you stop enjoying it :( It's no longer a hobby; it's a chore. How long have you been reefing? Maybe give it a little more time before you throw in the towel? Why don't you think you're good at it?

I can tell you first hand that nothing happens fast in this hobby, except algae.

This hobby demands patience. Small changes. Tiny tweeks. And close monitoring.

Me and tammy have been trying to get our calcium and alkalinity balanced back out for several months after things got out of balance.

Sometimes its best to slow down, step back, and enjoy the successes. There are always some. If you look into the tank and only see the problems, you are never going to be happy with it.

Look in and look at your accomplishments and then build off of them.

been a few years since ive been in the reef portion dont really have any accomplishments to start from to be honest

I'm sorry to hear that you might be leaving the hobby. Sometimes a break will make you miss it even more. It's a shame though, from your pictures you seemed to have a nice set up.

not aquascaping? Not setting up the tank with out dropping it? Its sitting there empty? If it has water in it, and its running, thats an accomplishment.

See the positives!

Go fish only.If its a hard chore and you dont get the end result, then try something else.

Y not focus on one tank and go from there. makes less work for urself and ull enjoy and give more attention to one

I've made my decision and I'm going to let it go. Hopefully not for ever but it is what it is. Thanks to all the members here on this site. I appreciate all the advise and help in the little time I was part of this forum. I wish u all the best of luck.

Well, hate to see you go. Best of luck to you too! You know you can still hang around on CR if you want :)

Well if you are getting out, shoot me a list of some of your bigger/nicer sps pieces and some pricing. My tank once again has that "just started, frags waiting to grow out" look. Ill be down that way in the near future to check in on Kenny's reef tank. I may be able to pick up a couple pieces from you on my way home a sunday afternoon.

Only keeping one tank is the number one best thing I did for my sanity in this hobby.

The second was automating EVERYTHING that sucks (dosing, cleaning the skimmer, top off, lights on timers, etc.) about the hobby. They are working on an automated glass cleaner right now as well and I already have a plan drawn up for my auto water change system.

Don't leave the hobby, just simplify it for yourself.

Sorry to hear about you leaving...but I have to agree, you're not enjoying it because you're overwelmed. Downsize and minimize to where your can still enjoy the beauty in it without the hassle of always fixing/cleaning something. Whatever your decision, we support you and wish you the best. :)
