Hey all,

Since I have about three months before I can restock my 90, I've been thinking about what I can add to it once I do. Soooo I've been kicking around the idea of getting a starfish and I have three in mind.

Below are the fish that I currently have in QT tanks.

Yellow Tang
melanurus wrasse
Dwarf Flam Angel
Yellow Watchman Goby
Two clownfish
Three blue/green chromis
Blood Shrimp
Cleaner Shrimp

Thanks for your input!

Hi Dom,

I've heard the same. I've also heard that it's very difficult to keep them alive for very long time and that it's also difficult to detect if there is anything wrong with them you buy them from the lfs.

Thanks.

The linckia stars are pretty difficult to keep alive from what I've heard.

Linkia's have a reputation for being fragile, but I think that is due to poor shipping / collection. I have one in my tank that's been there forever, and it seems to be doing just fine... I think? Hard to tell, lol, but it's alive! At one point I thought it had flatworms.. turns out it was cyano or something (had the same thing happen to my sea cucumber...), so that was easy to brush off.

Get a double and a linkia :) Skip the pink & blue, beautiful as it is!

I kept a Linkia alive for about a year... then it starting splitting, I thought, cool i'm gonna have two, then it died a couple days after that... I'm not sure if it was trying to reproduce asexually or not, but when it started to go down hill it was very fast and dramatic and there was nothing I could do to save it, the tissue all looked great except for where the division was... I wish I knew more about them, but around 5 years ago when this occurred there really wasn't much literature that I could find about them.

Hey Rich,

You are correct. The big issue with this guy is that if it starves to death and if he bury, it will really mess with my tank so this guy might be put on the back burner. We'll see.

You might need a deeper sand bed for blue and pink. I think they are sand sifters.

This might be in the works, but I'd like to be able to trade my clam first.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for sharing your experience. With the information that is out there now, would you try to keep on again?

I have an orange/red linckia star from xzotic aquatics. It is about 2 inches from arm tip to arm tip. It's been in my 120 for several months and doing well. I would not attempt the larger blue linckia stars due to their reputation for being so difficult.
