I was thinking about vit c because it seems pretty safe.
I havent found many experiences/research on it.
Every single person on every single forum cites the reason they tried it as 'pufferpunk recommended it'. Even on forums Im pretty sure your not on lol.
It seems you are the one who started this type of dosing.

I have added brightwell vit c to my tank before with no ill effects. I wasnt using it as a carbon source, but just testing it out because i got a free bottle. At the time i didnt notice any changes so i stopped.

Wow, I see someone took my idea & ran with it!!! They even refer to my thread on RC. How about that... You'd think they'd contact me before writing this.

There is also a $10 off coupon code: LUL789.

What's the link to the kind you buy?

Puffer, what are the effects with the corals after stopping VC? I understand that VC is a carbon source... But if levels are no issue like NO3 and phospate. Will their be an a effect on corals

I have been told that VC is like crack for corals.

Yah i saw your name mentioned in almost every post lol. Its like you are the 'founder' of vit c dosing in reef tanks...

I wish there was a similar product made by brightwell/seachem or another good company. Im always worried about adding something meant for humans or another industry into my reef tank. If you knew how much money some of the sps frags i have sell for, youd be worried also. :) For many of my frags, its not even the money i paid, but the fact that if i lose the frag i have to wait over a year just for the chance to buy a replacement tiny frag. If the wait time is only a year on some ill be lucky! There are some i just cant lose. :)

This is a very reputable company. It only contains PURE sodium ascorbate. Here was my tank after 3 years of dosing at 23ppm (I don't have a more recent pic but am still dosing, 2 years after that & my tank looks even better now):

Oh, not doubting it works for you. I usually need a ton more trials/research before I try something in my tank. My tank is completely different, all acropora.
If I tried everything that worked for a given group of people, I'd be in big big trouble right now. :)

Ok so I just ordered some of that vitc powder. I am going to start the dosing really slow just incase. 2-3ppm.
We'll see...
Its at least worth the 13$ to try.
Must say I am worried. From the rc thread I read (alot) more bad than good. No complete tank crashes though...
If I lose a single sps frag out of my 100+, I'm stopping.
Just looking for the safest dose between vodka, vinegar, biopellets, ect for carbon dosing.

My tank is 100% acropora frags (no other sps).
150g, all liverock, no sand, few fish.
Havent really seen anyone try it on my type of tank, so we'll see how it goes.

Day1: Added 1/4 Tsp into my 150g. Well under the recommended dose for 5ppm just incase. Good news: Nothing died! Sps thought it was feeding time because the feeding/sweeper tentacles came out. Saw zero negative effects on all 100+ of my sps corals and fish. I run one bag of clear fx pro gfo/carbon, one bag of purigen, one bag of seagel, and two bags of chemipure elite carbon/gfo. I was suprised that I noticed my tank having clearer water. I didnt think it could get this clear! Especially with everything else I run. Skimmer took out a bit more (more foam was present in the cup), but nowhere near overflowing.

This means that there will be a day 2!
Which I just dosed 1/3 tsp.

Geez Greg! with all that carbon/GFO/Purigen/skimmer, I'm surprised you have nitrates and phosphates to even need carbon dosing.

Been dosing the last week. I am at 1/2 tsp twice a day.
Still no negatives.

No real noticeable improvements other than water clarity and increased skimming. I never really had any issues so there wasnt much to improve nitrate/phosphate wise. Plus im only at 6-7ppm for only a week so didnt expect a huge change.

Still going to continue dosing at 1/2 tsp twice daily and we'll see. I just want a little carbon source to keep everything very very low but not absolute 0.
