Xmoji 57 Gallon Reef Tank

@Chicagoreefs my tank is about 4 years old and has approximately a 3 inch sand bed.

Watcha thinking?

Time to replace the sand bed. I had my 240 up for 4 years. Gha started and everything i tried would slow it down could not container it. Corals would slow rtn over months. I tore the tank down before i could try it as i was moving. A guy i know that has a ton of service tanks changes his sand every 2 or 3 years when things like this start and it resolves itself.

Do you stir your sandbed or symphon it? I siphon mine in every water change and sometimes between changes ( with the filter sock in the sump technique)

Let me just say, I love this hobby!! Lol. It’s really nice look at your tank and see happy healthy corals.

Looking great! I agree about looking at healthy corals. It’s really satisfying.....same is true when looking at stressed corals...really terrifying. I travel quite a bit an there is nothing more calming than getting home after being gone for five days, running to see if the tank is OK, and seeing happy fish and corals.

Oh, and I think SCOP is maybe the nicest coral in the hobby.

@Sawdonkey thanks! Oh man I sometimes dread going on vacation lol. I know it’s sad but I always get worried about how the tank is doing while away.

I’m with you scop is definitely a winner!

Quick update:

Things are gradually getting better. Sps color is coming back slowly but steadily. There’s still progress to make but I’m happy things are healthy again. My only battle is raising my no3 and po4 both are undetectable. I have been feeding HEAVILY to keep coral fed. I ordered neonitro to help raise my nitrates. I’m going to take it extremely slow so I don’t have any overdoses and cause more issues for myself. Anyway here are a couple iPhone actinic shots with an orange filter.

Finally detected no3 today!! I received Neonitro but haven’t dosed. I am going to monitor this recent increase before dosing anything. Salifert test came in around 2 ppm.

Anyway here’s some pics. Enjoy!

Hey guys, tank is doing great. I could t be happier with the turnaround. Colors are really popping and growth is very noticeable. Only thing is I noticed yesterday that my chateo is really brittle. Literally falling apart when touched. It is still green. Has anyone ever dealt with this, is it dying?
