Zoa/paly Polyp stalk extending

My vivid raibows are extending its stalk too much

They are directly under the light with out any shade and are around 12 inches from my DIY light of 3 whites and 3 blues

Is there still a chance that they might not be getting enough light ? Should I find some means to move them up ??

Hey Tin, I agree with Mai. Usually when they stretch it means not enough light. I noticed that with some type of palys. Once I moved them to receive more light they compressed again.

Noticing the ones in the background of your picture, they are looking like they are starting to stretch too.

demmit .. i have to start looking into getting another light :(

isnt this a bottomless pit to throw money in ... lol

ok, if its a diy led .. how many leds should i be looking into ?

tank is Nuvo 8 gallon with 12x12x12 ..

I don't understand though ... Par bulbs have the same 3 and 3 LEDs and they work fine

Put em higher with more flow. They will shorten. Beware.. too much light will make them loose color. Btw. I ran his lighting on my nuvo 8 and I had sps and many palys. Never had any light deprived. How much current tin. I ran 700ma. How long have you had these?

Had these for about a month if you are referring to vivid rainbows

Yea it's the same light except the uv is swapped with another white .. But as you see my rock work isn't that high

I have to put some lenses on them .. Too much light spillage

If u added lenses then they are likely not getting light. They could be offset from beam I guess u could call it. I kept lps, sps and palys on sandbed. Removing uv and adding white should increase par, but the lenses decrease spread.

Exactly my thoughts about increase in par

Heck, even ai nano has only two whites I have three lol

I don't have lens on them yet I'm thinking about putting 90 degree lens

Oh and another change .. Not sure of it matters but I removed the panel that has moon lights completely... Do you think that might have resulted in no reflection ??

Ps: vivid raibows are the only ones extending like that.. Fruitloops which are at the same level are closing off when whites turn on..

Btw. Some palys naturally develop longer stalks than others. My vivid rainbows that are from mai are closely matted to the plug, but pink auroras, ding dang, and many others reach a little bit. Flow has been key on my paly growth. I say my tank has no low flow areas. I like med random flow. Mp10 on purple setting with return pointed out at it.

Growth is good on my vivd rainbows also ...

My flow is comparatively very low .. Always afraid it might be too much flow for softies I always maintained low flow and placed these under low flow

4 polyps developed 8 new heads in around a month or don't know if that's good growth or not

I increased the flow so let's see .. Ill hold on using lens for sometime
