60 gallon marineland reef ready cube build

I would start with some zoas and see how they do. I just did this on my new 60. Zoas doing fine, inverts doing fine now onto fish.

Mike,

If you want to do things safely and insure you are doing things right, for that peace of mind at the end of the road....then set up a QT, select your fish and get them going for 30 days or so while letting that tank remain fallow. Not only will it benefit the animals, it will allow your tank time to stabilize. Rushing into set ups is a sure-fire way towards disaster. Just my 2 cents, but worth every penny.

Good Luck with the tank though!!

You're showing 1ppm of ammonia right now. I wouldn't add anything in until you read zero on both ammonia and nitrite.

i have a nano cube all running this is the upgrade tank, i'm just not patient enough. i guess i'll keep on waiting

Can you use the nano cube as your quarantine? Does it have rock and sand? if so I would remove it. You could pick up some media to grow your bacteria and let it run a week or two, to get it cycled and then use it to house new arrivals for a period of time, of course it all depends on the fish species, etc. That's a whole different thread altogether, but it might give you what you need to make sure you do not end up with any diseases or parasites in your 60. Having a crypto breakout a month into your tank running, sucks. Then you end up setting up a QT anyways and likely lose a fish or two, or more... It's just nice to be patient in this hobby, it benefits you in the long haul.

My nano is fully functional setup. It has all the livestock I'm transferring over. It's just an upgrade tank then I will add more stuff. After the nano is empty

Oh hell, my bad. Yeah, just wait until that ammonia drops, that is what I get for not reading everything before posting, sorry!!

this mornings readings

10/4

amonia 1.0ppm
nitrite .25ppm
nitrate 10ppm
salt 1.025
ph 8.0

i just added more amoina to bring it up to 4.0ppm
will test tomorrow and see if it goes down

10/7 readings, where am i in my cycle?

amonia 3.0 ppm
nitrite 5.0 ppm
salt 1.025

You're very much in the middle of your cycle.

The next step is you'll see your ammonia drop to 0, while your nitrites either continue to climb, or fall to 0 themselves.

Just keep in mind that no two tanks will cycle the same.

I would say test again in a couple days to see where they both are. My guess is that the ammonia will either drop or remain where it is.

Pretty much. I'm guessing that once you hit zero on ammonia and nitrite, your nitrates should be anywhere between 10ppm-40ppm. Then a 20-25% water change and you should be good to go.

I would suggest you keep posting the results of your tests though. Not only for everyone to give their input, but also for you to have a log for future purposes, and also for others who are in the same boat as you.

10/8 readings

its getting there!

ph 8.0
ammonia 1.0 ppm
nitrite - above 5.0 ppm
nitrate 40 ppm
salt 1.025

My guess is that by this weekend you'll be doing a water change because both ammonia and nitrite will hit zero. Purely a guess, but seeing how quickly your ammonia dropped in one day, it wouldn't surprise me.

The only thing I would say is that right before you get ready to do a water change, have someone check your water with a different test kit to be 100% certain, or just rerun the test yourself a second time.

But so far so good Mike!

and i have diatom bloom. there is a little on the rocks, but my sock in the sump is really brown, I think it caught it all in the sock :)

home stretch!
10/9
ammonia 0.25ppm
nitrite 5.0 ppm
nitrate 40 ppm

Don't jinx yourself sometimes it can take over a week for the nitrite bacteria to build. The reason I say that is because your nitrates haven't increased since your last test.

+1

Home stretch would be when ammonia is 0 for more than a couple days and you see that nitrite falling from 5.0ppm
