93 gallon rimless cube build

Stand with tank don't know how I feel about the doors... Guess they will do for now..

Plumbing shots running the durso standpipe and return that came with the cube. Is this a bad idea? Imput please and suggestions on plumbing. The fuge is on left fed by return pump with a gate valve on 3/4" PVC to slow flow... There is 1" flex tube that will come off that elbow to drop fuge feed below the water line for quiet operation it's not installed yet... And. The flex from the pump has also not been connected everything was PVC cemented and primed today minus the two connections to the bulkheads... Does anyone run silicone on bulkheads for extra leak safety? Please let me know how plumbing looks I also have a union in the drain side. It was super tight working down there the gfo reactor on far right will have its own 1200 maxi jet pumped through flexible acrylic tube from sump then return into the skimmer section... Please offer any advice since this is my first tank I've researched a lot and asked several ?'s but I'm bound to screw up somewhere...

Thanks
Glenn

As for the garage ?'s it holds about 10 cars with a 35x50 foot workshop... I rarely leave it and live above it... I'm gonna be sad when I move here in the next few years since the home I buy won't have anything close :-/ my father collects cars and that is also what we do for a living...

THANKS FOR ALL THE ENCOURAGEMENT GUYS COULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN THIS FAR WITHOUT YOUR POSTS ECT... And thanks William Lutman for the amazing sump

This build is looking fantastic! That this is your first tank can't be true; this build looks better than most that I've seen... Keep it up, and keep posting pictures!

And no silicone on the bulkheads; the gaskets are strong enough. This way, you can reuse them too! :D

Honestly the first saltwater setup I've ever done... I'm good with my hands and am a very hands on learner... I have built cars jetskis everything. Funny thing is I'm young to only 29. I choose to absorb bits of everything vs going out every day.. I work hard and spend $ on hobbies not booze and women who leave don't get me wrong I go out and have fun but this project has had me in hermit mode the last 3 weeks my friends are concerned haha

Glenn, great build so far! Wish I had seen this sooner, I would have chimed in on the return. I think I am becoming the "Herbie" advocate on these boards. Coming from many years of durso stands, do yourself a favor and do a Herbie..... You will thank me and yourself later. No noise, easy to dial in and the absolute most important part....NO BUBBLES. It creates a true siphon and you will not get the "gurgle or splash" synonymous with other overflow types, like dursos, which leads to the dreaded salt spray and eventual deterioration and rusting of everything within range of your sump. If you can implement it, do it.

Wish I didn't spend all my money on booze and women....

I was gonna go that route to.. I already glued everything :-/ well everything minus the attachments to the bulkheads plus I don't think I can drill the back since its a rimless...

Bummer, well it will still be a great build and I'm sure you will tweak the overflow to your liking. Can't wait to see some sticks in it.

My drains are 1" (hard) plumbing with 3/4" (soft) returns. I have 4 holes, so 1 gate valve drain and one emergency drain, with 2 returns. can you post a pic of the overflow box, birds-eye view? Or did you already lol...let me go back and look...

Ok, yeah I missed the pics of your plumbing already in place! So you have 2 holes and to do a Herbie you were thinking of drilling the back glass for a return? And using the 2 holes for your Herbie? Actually after looking at it, do a freshwater run and see how quiet you can get it and how much "gurgle" you get in the sump. Looks pretty **** good as it is. I just like the Herbie because it forces a true siphon with no air, so you get that nice fluid flow with no pausing due to air pockets, etc.

I need to make a lighting choice ASAP bringing it upstairs tomorrow and suggetsions

Hey Glenn,

I highly recommend you fully research lighting inside and out before rushing into a purchase. There is a pretty huge debate on the LEDs vs. T5's or T5/MH combos. The debate is over the lack of UV in LED systems and lack of true coloration from SPS. Some folks claim they get better growth and color with LED and others argue the fact. I just think anyone wanting to spend a large chunk on newer technology LEDs should be well informed beforehand. I was not and even though I do not regret my decision to do a DIY fixture, I am concerned that my tank might not be as good as it could be. The positive thing is, LEDs are in their infancy as far as technology goes and they will only get better in time, in fact, T5's will likely be obsolete in the years to come as the LED technology gets better. So DIY LED does give you the ability to upgrade to newer technology bulbs down the road.

Hope that helps!
