Anyone get bored with the hobby sometimes?

While I really enjoy my piece of the ocean, things have gotten a little boring for me lately. I have most of the SPS that I want in my 90, and am running out of space. The few high-end corals I'd like to acquire are so expensive that I can't bring myself to buy them, as my disposable cash flow is limited lately.

I've had a frag tank setup almost complete and ready to be set up since April, but can't seem to find the time or motivation to actually get it running. I was looking forward to the fall for CMAS to get rolling again, but now I am so burned out on all the politics that I don't know if I will even go to meetings anymore. I was really enjoying helping the club and attending events last year before things really went south due to the saboteurs.

So I guess I am in sort of a "reef rut". Definitely don't want to quit, but just sure where I go from here. Anyone else feel like this?

All the time man thats reason behind my 90 gallon rebuild does get boring sometimes gotta change it up

There are alot of folks on here who feel similarly. What would make it better?

sell of everything and start frm scratch again ??

i also heard when we add the money thing to reefing and treat it as a business it starts getting bored :) i know a few ppl that felt that way

Bryan,

I have known you for a while and is shocking to here this from you.. But at times I feel the same way!!! Been telling you to set that frag tank and make it into a zoa/paly garden with some beautiful clowns. I challenge you!!!

Stay away from the politics and enjoy your piece of ocean buddy!!!

I think we all go thru that stage sometime throughout the hobby, but sometimes a lil change up reignites the flame. The feeling will pass...hopefully. :)

What works for me , like others mentioned is changing things around. I have my display tank and a couple of empty tanks , when I want to spice things up I will start one of them up , like I am doing at the moment.

i def agree that at times i due get bored of the hobby or discouraged(cause of cost/politics/unknown deaths and diseases/tank not looking awesome like everyone else) but it passes.. for me what helped was seeing more movement in my tanks via more fish and having great fellow reefers/friends and staying active on the forumn

i also agree that starting a new tank or new project def re-ignites the passion again

Ha, thanks Dre. You know I'm a bit afraid of the zoas/palys since my last palytoxin run-in (it sucked bad). And if I plumbed it into my main system I won't have enough nutrients to keep zoas happy. And not enough cash to make it separate from the main system and automate it to my satisfaction ;)

I have gotten burned out by some of the people/politics before... it goes in phases. Some people are two timing double backstabbing whores and it gets old really quick. It's amazing how people you think are your friends drag you under the bus. I'll just keep my head down and focus on what I love doing and why I'm here... my tanks. Those people eventually filter themselves out. It's happened twice before... here goes round three.

Don't go anywhere Chris, you're one of the good ones! Change things up maybe, get that frag tank going, drink more booze  or go on vacation. It's amazing what a vacation will do for ones moral.

Hugs and SPS kisses.

Ha, thanks Eric. You are right, I could really use a vacation. :)

And I don't know who the hell Chris is, but thanks for the well wishes ;)

I think that it was funner when didnt know crap about hobby no to easy. My reef still keeps me interested thats cause ots lot of work i dont havr all the fancy equipment that some have so i do alot of maintnence so keeps me busy. Kinda like racing cars the build is the most fun the actual racing well thats the cherry on top some people have tanks set up virtually maintenance free while others like ne have hands in tank everyday. My fowlr got boring no maintnence now redid and gonna be reef too
