Anyone get bored with the hobby sometimes?

Ha, thanks Dre. You know I'm a bit afraid of the zoas/palys since my last palytoxin run-in (it sucked bad). And if I plumbed it into my main system I won't have enough nutrients to keep zoas happy. And not enough cash to make it separate from the main system and automate it to my satisfaction ;)

Not so true!! I seen some adjust well.. But your right about making it automated ;)

And I don't know who the hell Chris is, but thanks for the well wishes ;)

LOL.... ah-hell this is Bryan?!?.... I didn't mean any of that! ;) Ya, sorry I don't know why I was thinking Chris... maybe I saw a hottie named Chris this morning in the voting line ;) hehe

I'm feeling bored right now as well. I need somethng to do but I will NOT be starting another tank. I'm starting to think that I drastically reduce the amount of coral (keep my fav sps and few choice lps), remove all of my rock (scrub off the evil blue carpet cloves) and rescape it with a lot more tonga...

that's one thing too

i feel like complete automation kills the fun in this hobby

I absoluetly love automation. I'm much too busy so I like having the ATO, Lights and Heater Controller taking monitoring off my to-do list. My weekly chore list only includes emptying out my skimmer's collection cup, siphoning detritus twice a week into the sump and vaccuming out the intake chamber when I do my 5 gallon water change. I can spend the majority of the time enjoying my tank and fish instead of being elbows deep in my tank and sump.

+1

Automation to that extent should be ok. Yes i love heaters and lights and ATO and thats as far i love the Automation to
what i dont like is complete automation dosing and feeding and what not all the things done automatically. but well few ppl like that too so no complaints

I've tried it both ways - low tech and high tech. I have become lazy in my old age so I love the automation. Plus I make sure my fish are fed during the day when I am at work, and I feed them the good stuff when I get home. And the way my SPS consume Alk/Ca, there's no way I could be successful without auto dosers going 3-4 times a day to keep things stable. 24 hours in-between dosing would give me an Alk swing of at least 1 Dkh and 100 Ca, and my SPS aren't too fond of that ;)

I would say just maintain as is for a while and focus on other hobbies. That will allow you to come back fresh.

Since I got to stay home and put a new water heater in... Im good for today! I hear you on the whole situation and what my son and I are in the process of doing is building a 3D printer. Thats going to break things up a bunch and keep me sane as I won't have to stay in my fish room constantly...

happens to me from time to time, i move things around, upgrade equipment, buy new fish and coral, anything to keep you wondering really keeps me going. and since you say your running out of space, why not upgrade? go to a 150 and fill those gaps. thats what i did!

keep me posted!!

Noooo Bryan. Don't get bored! I got my first "nice" sps from your tank and your tank inspired me when I saw it. I got your green slimer and pink lemonade i think.

I really think the excitement in this hobby comes from learning something new and planning/building. Isn't there anything you wish you had done differently? Maybe you can break down and rebuild a new system perfectly.

I think we all get into a slump in many things we do, not just in the reef hobby. I play golf and have my ups and downs. During the beginning of the season I am out golfing 2 to 3 times a week. After a a month or so it dies off. I think the hobby cost money and sometimes that money used does not pay you back in the reef aquarium hobby.

Just grow out those new corals i saw in u tank cause o want some lol purple boobies and birds nest all doing great

i have alot going on in my life and ive been meaning to do a water change for like 3 weeks-
this week i setup my 35 gallong container and rodi line to it. all the water is made, i'm ready to proceed with my restart.

- i'm going barebottom and swapping out all of my rock - this week.

that should motivate me back into the swing.
