BRS Pukani leaching Phosphates

I did, the few reviews it received were as bad or worse than the hanna tester.

I saw that too.

Oh well at least Mr. White has the MI412 and he can come test my water on the weekends for some girly drinks:)

So I've been testing each night since I purchased the Milwaukee unit and I am getting .07 or .08 which is much better then I was getting with the Hanna Checker...and it's been more consistant. Now...time to tackle these phosphates.

I recently purchased 50lbs of BRS pukani rock, Did an acid bath( not strong only used a gal of acid for 20 gals of water), and now I have it cycling in a brute. I will get my water tested this week and if phosphates are high I will purchase some lanthanum and play around with that. I hope this leaching doesn't happen to me :eyebrows: for my new build.

BRS makes no secret that it is freshly dead live rock that is full of organics and needs to be cured carefully. I've literally seen stars still alive on some. Marcos is good stuff and know him a long time.

I've always received bone dry rock. Never heard of it having anything live on it or shipping wet. It's rock from totally dry dead sea beds that have been on land for decades. It does contain tons of organics though.

I live BRS and am a distributor for them. I still use a lot of the rock per request, but it must be cured completely as yes it is full of phosphates. You just have to know what your dealing with.
