Cornbred Frag Grow Out

LOL, I hope you guys don't feel I cursed you now!

But I have to admit, after spending $150 on the last frag that died, I do have a fear of being the grower.

hahaha, hopefully none of them die, but the first page states the the grower will not be held responsible for the unintentional loss of corals.

I already did. I asked Rich Negret for pics of the actual frags. I will post the pics once he emails them to me. Of course I asked for freebies. Last time I ordered from him the freeby frag came as a surprise with my order.

I did some googling on these pieces and to my untrained eye, this looks like Cola worked out a really good deal. Thanks again for making it happen!!

man this chalice is fricking awesome.. unfortunatly i cant afford it :( Stupid question but how much would a super super tiny piece be?lol

Thanks for the info about the grow-out, makes sense but wow $2000 for a coral? I have a show quality German shepherd and couldn't get that price for her! So how long before you frag the frag, do you let it grow so you can frag it all for those involved or do you do it one at a time? Just asking, really curious, wondering if it's something to look forward too in my reefing experience

Once you get big enough to frag into 6 then you can divy them up. different chalice grows at a different pace, so it could take awhile, months.
Chalice Grow outs are really famous in reef2reef. Eric "poidog" started doing it here. It's a great way to save a ton of money, you just need patience and a good grower. high end Chalices are probably the most colorful and most expensive of all the corals.

I'm assuming the person that started this idea(nino) would get the first frag and we can go from there, maybe put names in a hat and draw?

So would you let all 6 eyes grow out first? Or frag each eye as it comes in? I would think cutting it would slow down the growth.

Gus, you keep the corals, until you get atleast 6 eyes/mouths, coz of course I would assume the more mouths you can feed, the faster they will grow. we don't cut them until they are big enough for the 6 of us. We can all get our corals at the same time.

That works.Hmm,i'm thinking of putting the frag in a tray on the sand and feeding it 3-4times a week.Gott plan ahead to make this chalice a happy growing camper on it's new home.

Do you just surround it with plugs or tiles and then cut between them? This process is very interesting.

most chalices are non-encrusting, they usually just sit on the rock that they grow on or plug, except for the part that's glued, so it's easy to take it out and frag it. you then just piece it up with a razor/blade.
you can youtube "fragging chalice coral" to see a demo.
