Generator = peace of mind

I have a natural gas generator on my house for the last 7 years. Best investment for the house I have made. You can put one on the house for a reasonable price. I have a briggs and Straton 6K generator. It has a maximum of 12 emergency power circuits. It does not power the whole house but it is enough to cover the furnance, fish tanks, refridgerator, living area and sump pump. I purchased the generator online for $2000, found a local electrician to install it for $600 and paid my neighbor who is a plumber $50 to do the gas line. I leveled the ground and positioned the generator. All the quotes I got for someone to do everything was alot mor expensive so piecing it out may be a more effective way of purchasing it.

Sounds like the way to go , any Links for the unit you purchased ?

Agreed, I stayed home from work today as well. I just don't trust the new storms won't take power down again.

I stayed home from work today too... Unfortunately we had some water come in. We have a quad-level (tri-level with a basement) and our lower level was soaked, basement was dry though. Best we can figure is that the downspout in that corner of the house was turned back TOWARD the house! And we think our sliding door was not flashed properly. Thankfully that's the extent of it. Hopefully no foundation or other drainage issues. Just got done tearing out the carpet and padding...

I guess We'll just deal with concrete floors down there for a while. FYI, this is a new to us house, so we haven't figured out all the bugs yet! ;)

Thanks for the link! I bookmarked it for future reference. Don't have the $ for one now, but it's in the plans.

Glad it wasn't too bad for you. Hang in there and brace yourself for any more storms.

And I just got power back. It went out again, last night about 6:45, antoher 15 hours of outage.

I cannot wait for the NG generator... it's been several years since we've had an outage and now 2 long ones this week.
