Herbieace's "Frankenfrag-Tank"

Where should the water level be on this skimmer? (Sc65) I think I may need to egg crate it up

Ran it is RO and vinegar for a couple hours then built my little table and got it fired up. This morning it was already pulling green. (Forgive the green water as my fuge transplant settles)

Seems to be working pretty well.

So I want to add the 20 High to the system. I'm thinking about usig my Marineland 350 as the return and a PVC overflow. I'd put the intake just below my normal water line in the return section of my sump. Am I failing to think of something that makes this a bad idea?
this is the overflow I am thinking of:

did u ever decide what fish your gonna put in ur frag tank?

not yet, but I might actually do a damsel or something that will pick at algae. Right now I have an unwisely purchased fighting conch in there.

Any thought on using the Magnum 350 as a return. Seems like a good idea and it will have plenty of head, but I'ver just never heard of anyone doing that.

I use to own 3 magnum 350, back in my FW days :D Why not just use a MJ1200 or a Mag 3?

You're probably right, but I like to push the envelope (and I have the 350 already running on this system so it's really just lazyness). I even have 2 spare 1200s and 1 900, but I want to try the 350 because it will be super easy to just move the pipes around. I know it's bad when people ask about stuff if they already know what they are doing, but I wanted to ask in case someone says "No! It will explooooode" or something. Maybe I'm the first to try this, but it seems like something someone would have thought of already. I might even do two of the PVC overflows side-by-side for failure prevention (good call Stenopus). I don't even know what is going in the second tank, but I have it and you can see from my shelves that I have a little extra pvc laying around as well. Fortunately, this whole rig sits right over my basement floor drain, so accidents will be manageable.

Give it a try and hope it doesn't affect performance on the 350..

I don't even need the actual filtration of the 350 at all (plenty of LR and even a couple HOBs running), but you may be right about the pump (especially if I have to keep it restricted). If it works, it seems to be an excellent way to incorporate a return and a carbon reactor in the same power cord. We'll call it part of the overall experiment.

20L cracked at the bulkhead. I'm screwed. Anyone have a drilled one laying around up here?

All fixed. cost me $10 total (if you count the free gift card). all in all, could have been much worse. Got lucky this time.

Now I also have a 20t plumbed in using magnum 350 canister as return and DIY PVC overflow. It works amazingly well.
