Oh I get it. I'm used to playing regular poker. So in these tournaments the pot is the buy-in. I play Hold 'Em on my blackberry but never pay attention to the money (since it isn't real).
 
ok everyone, I say we do a $30 buy in. $10 of it will go towards the winning payouts. $20 will be donated. I say we invite any and all who wish to bring an appetizer (chips, dip, veggies, fruit, quesadillas, ect..) to share and munch on. BYOB.With a $30 buy in, each player will recieve chips in this fashion= 2-$5 chips, 15-$1 chips, and 20-25cent chips totaling $30. Payouts will depend on the number of participants. If we get enough people to come it would be neat if people were willing to donate a frag or two and we could have a mini raffle durring the tournament so even those who do not know how to play poker, still have an equal chance of winning some frags. Raffle tickets can either be given or sold at the door. If we sell tickets, they should be a dollar each (max of $5 worth I think) All proceeds from ticket sales go towards donation. Now let me know what everyone thinks about this set-up. All comments are welcomed so we can put together a very good tourney. Thanks, Rob
 
we should see if any members have a frag or two for a silent auction. That should raise more money than a raffle.

True, I was trying to think of cost effective things that many would participate in. I am a new college graduate so i wouldnt be able to participate in silent auction. just saying. If we all agree on that then it's totally fine :) Someone else will have to take the lead.
 
What dates are we looking at for the event now, Rob? I'll be in travel mode most of the summer and MIA on several weekends. I may not be able to play poker but I can certainly shop my behind off and contribute with a few dollars.

There only 11 people who have voted and its about 50/50 on the dates. Let's assume that out of the 11 people showing interest so far, maybe 8 will show up. I hate to say it but is worthwhile time to have a tournament with so few people? Playing devil's advocate here, but maybe there would be a better way to raise more $...just a thought.

Let's see how many more people show interest...

I agree with Eric. I can't make either date due to travel plans but a dozen people showing up wouldn't justify MCF keeping their doors open and staying after closing. :dontknow:
 
Hello fellow reefers,

I saw your running conversation about the poker game and frag raffle. I am new to the club and to the hobby. I would love to join in on this putting so that I could meet some of you, especially Eric(poidog). Your corals are out of this world. Unfortunately I will not be able to make it to either date in June as I am going to be on vacation. I will keep my eye open for the next event you guys put together so I can try to make it. Once again thanks for having such a nice club, and I look forward to learning and enjoying the hobby with you guys.
