Jrpark22000 - 110 rimless tank

And the latest hardware addition, a properly built ATS. The turbo Rev3 L4 with the dimmable LEDs, snap on light blockers and flapper style drain valve.

Thanks Bud Floyd R Turbo

These are seriously built peices of gear. I've no affiliation with Bud and had origianlly overlooked his ATS when first considering Turf Scrubbers, I thought it was overly complicated. Well, wasn't I proven utterly wrong when I choose the other ATS on the market and it was an complete failure. It's quite easy to see all of the refinements in this ATS from years of tweaking. Link to his info for anyone following. https://www.algaescrubbing.com/

For reference, it's a 2'x2'x20"deep tank it sitting on. It's the biggest one he sells for Rev3.

On a note on the tank itself. I've done quite a few changes.
1. The fish have been changed up almost compelely, both to reduce no3 and as the blenny caught some kind of bacterial infection which the borb also caught. I lost both fish.
2. I've removed all the shelves of corals from the side glass, to simply the tank maintenance and glass cleaning.
3. The sun coral colonies also were removed in eforts to feed the tank less, there are still plenty of yellow and a few black sun corals who have seeded themselves in the overflow and sump but as they feed themselves from the water column, they don't need spot feeding of mysis.
4. I've pulled the 8" basket ball sized birdsnest colony out as it was blocking flow and to give room for the other colonies to grow.
5. I'm working on building my supplemental DIY leds this weekend and have added another off the shelf LED fixture all in efforts to get a full spectrum lighitng solution. Much more to come on the lights and ATS as time comes.
6. I swapped out the old mp40wes wetsides for the new QD mp40 wetsides in the DT. I couldn't get parts for the old ones anymore. The flow pattern from the QD is quite different, it took about 2 weeks for the sps and some lps to extend the same. The GSP on the overflow still dosen't extend as much since the new wetsides.

That thing looks like it is pretty serious! Nice!

yeah it's a serious peice of gear. I don't see how I can get this to not grow algea and Bud is a great man to deal with. He'd never tell me to "sell it to someone else" to see how it works on someone elses tank, like the last guy's ATS I tried. :D

We'll see how it works!

Pretty sure I forgot to send you the user guide. But it looks like you figured it out!

Start with the LEDs at 50% (both knobs turned to the 6 o'clock position) and run the lights for 9-12 hours/day maximum for probably the first week. Oh wait, I still need to send you your screen!! :a43::frusty:

I see they stopped selling service packs for the older wetsides and I've been thinking about getting the new QD wetside to quiet down my worn out older version.
Other than flow pattern, have you noticed that the new QD wetsides are "better"; e.g. higher flow, quieter?

Yep, I found your two docs on line for instruction.

The new wetsides for the mp40 are essentially a larger version of the mp10 wetside. With this they are more robust, but less user servicable. As my drysides are still the same, there's no change in noise or flow output. The only difference I've seen in the pattern, which is a significant change.

Well if the wetside had a worn out nut or bent shaft it could cause knocking. Ive replaced two of my wet sides and they are silent but prior they knocked at change in speeds from a worn nut.

Im pleased over all now. The dry sides humm but nothing too bad.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA and a few more HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHA

The unscrapped screen without mortar is already growing algea. Pulled the light off to check tonight and I can see short green strings on it. It was installed on the tank late on the 27th, 5 days later it's got growth.

I'll snap photos in a couple days to a week for everyone following.

I obviously have a problem within my tank and can't grow algea in an ATS... LMMFAO. Sorry, just a bad memory from the previous ATS attempt for any of you who followed that thread.

Onto the good stuff. First pic is of day 6 since install and second two are from today, day 8. Let me add, this is with the an completely unprepped screen. Floyd R Turbo is sending a screen that not only has been hand scrapped, but also mortar coated to optimise growth. He sent this raw screen just for me to set the unit up and it's growing algea like a champ. If I'd of started with it from day one, I'm scared to think of how much growth would be there. Nuff talking, onto the pics....

Nice.
I got a weird growth on mine...i wanted to see what others growth was as mine looked similar to yours but a nicer lime green from the screen being rough for the hairs to grab hold. Anyway.
With a change in bulb it was diff. Im uncertain if it was bad or good.

But the algae looked like cotton. Literally fibers growing together like a cotton ball in clumps.

Ive not seen anything like it in ATS photos.
Might be garbage. Who knows i might try that bulb again

There are so many species of algea. Some are cotton candy like, others form thick clumps similar to clumps of sod, and others are nasty slimey. It's all about what you have in the tank and what parameters each species like to grow in. Give it a couple weeks for my to mature and I should know what type of algea(s) are there better. Changing up your lighting significantly should change up what species grows on the ATS, or stop all growth if you don't have algea which like the other light.

Yes! Thats the weird one i havent seen on turf screen images ive searched for. It literally looks like a fuzzy cotton candy balls build up meshed up. I could literally peel chunks of it as it was dry looking like a plant would be.

The bulb in question gave my mangrove 3 leafs growth also.
Wonder what that bulb would do to my now dying orchids.

Scrubber update. The mortar screen came today so I pulled out the demo screen. Before washing it off, here what the smooth demo screen looked like. Can't wait to see what the mortar covered screen does.

I'm also trying to finihs up the DIY LEDs, but work keeps getting in the way... Working on them a little more tonight.
