Jrpark22000 2.2g DeepBlue

I have one frag only thats tight closed. But i moved her last night to see if its.just a flow/not issue. The big frag is fine. And the singles are fine as well.

Nice. I'll wait for the polyp to open back up, after moving it. I'll then start to raise PAR over a week or more.

What water params do you keep these under Jorge?

I won't have time tomorrow or this weekend for an update, so here it is today.

I did not start increasing PAR yet, I wanted to make sure the polyp was stable before changing paramters. Over the last week the large polyp stayed open the majority of the time. It does close at the slightest movement, including cleaning the glass. The small polyp has NOT been seen open to date, actually I can no longer see any trace of orange color where it was.
The CB shrimp molted during the day today which I'm happy to see. On two ocassions I've seen the remains of half eaten bristle worms. I'll continue to toss the ones from my DT filter sock into the pico as I find them. I also feed 2-3 spectrum pellets daily. I was hoping to see some nitrates but not yet.

Parameters since last update

Nitrates undetectable
Ammonia undetectable
pH 7.74-8.00
Temp 77.4-79.5
ALK 7.5
CA 500
Salinty 52.8-53.1ms (1.026)
PAR 50 (due to 20K LED reading is probably up to 20% lower than actual)

Lights are on 8am to 8pm
ATO uses about 1gal evap a week
AWC still not setup, needed to get different pump heads.
Water Change 2-3 cups every 2-3 days

This weeks update;

I did try increasing PAR. The polyp spent more time closed, so I went back to 50 par. The single polyp has increased in size since the start of the growout, which is nice to see.

The CB shrimp is now getting braver and spending a bit more time out. It's also now trained to come out when I feed spectrum pellets.

Still no nitrates. To keep ALK and CA in balance with WC it looks like I won't be seeing any nitrates. Probably due to all the coraline on the LR.

Parameters since last update

Nitrates undetectable
Ammonia undetectable
pH 7.84-8.1
Temp 77.5-79
ALK 7.5
CA 520
Salinty 52.4-53.4ms (1.026)
PAR 50

AWC still not setup, needed to get different pump heads.
Water Change 2-3 cups every 2-3 days

Midweek update; The AWC is running albeit manually triggered. With the long weekend I hope to get the AWC reservoir float hooked up so I can automate it. I am also going to kill the red planaria this weekend. After watching the polyp for some extended periods, I am pretty confident it’s random closing is due in part to them crawling around. There are a few dozen in the tank, so I’ll do a WC pulling out the CB shrimp and frag. Then dose the tank heavily with flatworm exit and dip the frag plug. Pics to follow later in the weekend.

This weeks update;

Yesterday afternoon I pulled the frag and shrimp to do a large dose of flatworm exit. After an hour, lots of dead red worms and about a 50% WC, I dipped the frag in bayer before adding everything back to the tank. Since, the frag has been open almost 100% of the time. CB made it through the treatment without issues.

This week’s update and a ****WARNING****

The cobalt heater is as worthless as shitballs! I’m done with using it’s built in thermostat. Last week my Apex alarmed me stating the temp was 76!! The heater’s thermostat still read 78, so I upped it one setting and poof the temp went up to 79. I no longer trust this crap thing, I hooked it up to my Apex and now get rock solid temps. Can you tell in the below graph when I made the change?

I swapped out the stock AC70 media basket for an INTank brand media basket. They are relatively expensive and I did modify the fuge chamber (removing the mid plate) but I do like the results better. My bubble trap media pad would clog as the week went on and would back up water changing the salinity. With the INTank basket the large filter floss chamber solves the problem. Also the smaller fuge area allows for better and more complete K1 tumbling.

The 2 new heads put on some nice growth over the week, otherwise no change.

Parameters since last update;

Nitrates undetectable
Ammonia undetectable
pH 7.88-8.15
Temp 76.1-79.2
ALK 7.5
CA 480
Salinity 51.8-53.2ms (1.026)
PAR 55

AWC runs 10 mins daily, about 1 cup

Interesting... My Cobalt heater has been working just fine I use a Mercury Thermostat to make sure it's in range. I really don't expect it to be dead on but I put my Apex Temp probe in just to see how much more accurate it is and it seems off by 0.02 degrees I set it at 76 and my Apex reads 75.8 then I set it to 78 degrees and it reads 77.6 or 77.9 which isn't that bad but my Mercury Themometer reads at around 76 degrees and 78 degrees.. Who knows maybe my Apex is the one off... lol

I’m glad Frankie, wish mine was as stable. I wasn’t worried about the thermostat being off as compared to the apex, but the huge swings in temp. Who knows how low it would have gotten if the Apex had not alarmed me. It could have killed the tank.

I would get in contact with Cobalt and have them send you a new one since this one isn't staying as stable, these are some expensive heaters they need to back these up...

Until it outright dies I'm not gonna worry about it, other than the warning to other reefers. It's new, unproven and I don’t want to deal with finding a temporary replacement. If I replace it, it’ll be for good.

Finnex Titanium heater is your best bet most proven heaters on the market without fail already going on 3 years with the one I have and knock on wood it's still doing a great job. Thats if you replace it.

Thanks for the recomendation. I'm torn. I really want jager to make a heater that is short enough to fit. Their 25w is 9" long. I'm just hoping this cobalt doesn't pull a stealth heater and explode taking the tank with it.
