Logan 12 featured 55 gallon mixed reef

just want to say your tank is awesome :) And whatever method ur doing is very intriguing.. I thnk that theres not a set guidelines on how to set up a reef tank.. i thnk everyone one of us takes a method from here and there and add there own and make it work.. Do u thnk your same method can be applied to a pico or nano tank

thanks

The method is just not in set up. It is more in water quality, nutrient export/inport and cycles. I believe very stongly in cycles. Light cycles, moon cycles and temp cycles. This is both yearly and daily occurance. Coral respond to these cycles in both growth and spawning in nature so you should include them in your reef tank.

The smallest tank that I have ever had was a 20 gallon, and it had a similar set up on it. Although it was a frag tank it thrived, it ended up being filled with around 30 diffrent zoa colonies which I fragged off of at the time when zoas were extremly popular. So I do not see why the same methodswould not apply to a smaller system.

I wonder how much of the water quality success is related to the uptake of nutrients by soft corals used which are used for growth (and later exported through fragging). I know some people keep Xenia fuges for that reason. GARF used to advocate this heavily, but the idea seems to have dwindled down a bit.

Either way, keep doing what you are doing looks like it's working!

That's a very interesting idea.

Beautiful tank a with no water changes. I envy u lol. To me it aint wrong if it works for u and it sure looks like its working. Great point about not copying some one else i found in the 9yrs of doing this every tank is different. What works for one may not work for another. Looks like u just figured out the perfect balance.
