MACI St.Charles,IL- your thoughts and what you got

Hey guys, it truly sucks that the Male passed on me. When I got home and took him out of the box to float he was belly up in the bag. Regardless I floated him as he might have been stressed. Nothing. The female looked like she almost didn't make it but on a positive note she's doing great today and eating. She has a couple spots on her so she is in QT. I guess that little nano she was in was worth something. I'm thinking all the stress they had to go through yesterday from going from tank to tank to tank and such didn't help the situation. I guess Reef Imports responsibility was to hand them over and it. I do want to thank them though for donating such beautiful fish and I want to thank Sissy for helping me out yesterday. Thanks guys and gals! I don't expect a replacement as it wasn't their responsibility after they handed them over. I personally don't think they should have been put in that small of a tank though. Well I guess it is what it is now and now we have to move on. Either way thanks again to RIH for the fish and CMAS for throwing a great show imo. I can't wait for the next one! :p

What fish did you win?? I'm so lost in this.

I'm a bit skittish about buying fish at these events, I think they go thru too much stress from the vendor, to the shows, then back to who buys them. I see that captain's corals had an achilles, I can't imagine how stressed out that guy was in that little cube.

Just a few more comments about the show:

I wasn't feeling 100%, but wanted to stick around for the raffle. I got there late at noon and that 5 hours was an eternity :) The "big" prizes went pretty fast, but the seondary ones did take forever. I think next time Tammy gets some help! maybe have the cutoff at 3:30, then have all the secondary prizes pre-drawn and ready to go after the primary prizes are drawn live (the excitement is fun!)

I also absolutely loved the new raffle "sheet" process, it's was great only have two numbers to look for as I bought 2 sheets. way better than trying to look thru 50 tix!

Hopefully the reefers can get in for cheaper tables next year so they dont have to pass on higher prices, although Beefy still had awesome prices! :)

Well I know Cubbies takes great care of his livestock so for the vendor not being caring for the person that won them they will never receive my business!! Sorry to hear cubbies!!

Well guys, thanks for the kind words. I saw it as an extreme workout! But overall, I wasn't the only one working very hard. I'd like to give a shout out to all the volunteers. Each and every one of them worked very very hard, just more difficult to see them as they were not in the raffle area. I do have to say, for the first show, it went pretty well and yes there were some challenges. But we learn from them and continue to make the future shows even better!

With my current job, it's been more difficult to go on forums so this show was great to see the faces tied to the screen names.

But who was holding the fish? Was the vendor keeping them or was the event team taking care of them? You can't blame the vendor if they were turned over to the MACI folks and it was in their care during the event and before the event.

I was in charge of setting up the tank & caring for the Platinum clowns. I even found a buyer for them when the winner didn't want to take them home.

So the wrasse died? Or the clowns? Personally, I think all this movement of the fish is too stressful for them.

The clowns were alive when I bagged them up for the guy taking them home. Never looked stressed at all. The male wrasse died before it got home & the female is covered in ich. Not blaming anyone--maybe the difference between a wild caught & captive bred fish? God knows what those poor wrasses went through to get to the winner's tank from where ever they came from. I bet those clowns were born in Chicago.

I KNEW THAT GUY WASNT GOING TO TAKE THEM! I should have grabbed him and told him to give him to the baby. She was eyeballing them in that tank, HARD. Pointing at them and laughing and stuff.

yeah, but they put you under all those hot lights! big kudos to all the volunteers/staff for sure! I guess it can't be said enough. It was a good show, I think all the constructive criticism will go along way to next year!

They went to the 2nd highest offer, although Fishbeard offered him more, I guess.

I offered him a fair price based on what some other members told the guy they were paying for fish twice the size and he turned my offer down, said for that he would just keep them. 10 minutes later Jeni bagged them up for someone else, who apparently paid $50 LESS than my offer for the pair... Whoever did end up with them got a heck of a deal.
