MaiDia's new (used) 80 non-rimless deep blue tank - start..

OMG!!! I can't wait to see this tank in person! The tank looks incredible Mai! Man, now you have me even more motivated to get mine back into shape for SPS!

Don't excite too much about my SPS tank. It's not like years ago with all big colonies of SPS. Few tank crash now time to re-grow them again. :)

That sucks, but I understand. You'll have them back up in no time though! I'm sure that even with the crash, I'll still be blown away lol!
 
All i think is too much dosing Vodka/Vinegar...I did search over big site, people got problem and all corals (SPS) came back good when all stop dosing carbon...also they stop Biopellet, stop GFO just CAL, ALK, MAG and dose Nitrate..
Now I stop and my SPS come back slowly but good now.

Would you mind posting that link about carbon dosing? I currently dose Red Sea's nitrate control solution and was just hoping to see the article or thread you read on the topic. Thanks!

My theory is we are all impatient relative to how long it takes things to stabilize...so we use more than needed to get a visible change sooner, and are unaware of the "half life" and "build up" on the overall chemistry. So ,we end up overshooting the system needs and end up with a hungry, sensitive, ULNS environment. Dosing Nitrate is our reaction to correct the unnatural chemistry we've created.

My system didn't crash, but this is effectively what happened in my system. I've backed out 3/4 of everything I had in place to reduce N03 & P04 and things are returning to something "stable". We shall see! BTW, same theory on dosing Nitrates....we will tend to think it's being used up quickly, or not making enough difference, and we should add more....and there will be a tipping point when builds up and becomes a big number and an imbalance.

Actually, my big crash is 2.5 year ago, not because the chemistry at all. Because vacation too long and reef tank sitter don't know how to take care of the tank. The most recent crash because of moving tank and too much nutirent export but not kill the SPS just STN from the base and they all come back now. All of the softies, highend shroom and chalices all alive and doing well from the big crash 2.5 years ago so no worry about those. SPS are pain but fun and I love to take a challenge to re-grow it again. Time will tell.
