MMreefcrazy's 120gal.SPS tank

Mark-

I have a couple questions:

Does the Apollo leds use a modular approach and have you notice better coral growth in these 4 weeks now that you've switched to led?

BTW this tank is beautiful.

I am not sure what you mean by modular approach but each unit has 55 3W led set up in a strip fashion.30 blue and 25 white. Each color has its own power cord. Also my units has moonlights as well.As far as growth I would not say it is better since my corals grew like crazy with T5's ,I think it is about the same, with some corals closer to the bottom showing more growth then with T5's.It means light penetrates better than T5.I did bleached out couple of my corals.Overall I am very happy, but planning to supplement those with 2 KZ Fiji Purple T5 bulbs for better color on my red and orange corals. They look a little washed out when all LED's are on.Blues and green look great. When only blue LED's are on I get to see colors I never seen before with my T5 light.Mostly my LPS show beautiful fluorescent colors.

Sorry about that Mark..What I meant by a modular approach is will you be able to upgrade any of those leds like the AquaIllumination led.

No unfortunately not. This is my first LED's I did not wanted to spend ton of money for it.My plan is if I still like how my tank looks in a year I will spend some $$$ and get Vertex Illumina LED.

Yes they are,but so far I like mine.Great thing about LED I don't have to change bulbs every 6 months like I used to (saving of $200),no heat transfer to water at all ( got rid of my cooling fans) and my water evaporation went down from about 2 gal.a day to 0.5 gal.a day.

That's already some big saving and in the long run even more. Awesome tank Mark. How are you going to incorporate the 2 KN fiji purple? Are you going to DIY something?

Yes I am going to do an aluminium frame that will hold two LED units and one T5 bulb on each side (front and back).I do have design in mind but a guy who is going to do it for me it is very busy at this time so I have to wait few weeks.Once is done I will post pics.

What an exciting last two days for me.Last night I got a beautiful blue maxima clam for free from a good friend who is taking his tank down and just about two hours ago my clowns spawn for the first time!

Very nice Mark. That clam is amazing. Congrats on your clowns spawning, you going to be a grandpa Mark! :juggle:

Hi guys,it has been a crazy week for me, so I did not have time to finish my aquascape and final coral placement.I will be finishing it slowly over couple of weeks.I got rid of almost half of my rock ,making it more open for future coral growth and fish to swim.Unfortunately I broke a lot of coral in the process, but have tons of frags for sale.Everything is doing good, some corals lost some color, others are doing even better.I am very happy with my new Apollo Solar Blast LED's so far. This is the only picture I have right now, excuse the frag racks in the tank, also there is still a lot of corals on the bottom that I need to find a spot on rock,so it looks messy right now..You get the idea of what I did with my aquascape.Light on the picture is blue leds only on,notice how some corals fluorescence.Especially my green slimer looks like bright green neon. When all leds are on the overall look is close to 10K-12K.I will post more pictures when finished with all rocks and corals.Enjoy.
