MMreef's mostly NPS tank

Tank looks amazing Mark! Those sun corals are getting fed well

Some new updates, stayed up late last night and took some amazing pictures. As you can see, corals are doing great, many growing new heads. I keep feeding all suns and dendros every other day, so no wonder they are happy. I was able to get my Nitrates down to 5 PPM from 15 PPM, with all that heavy feeding that's pretty good. Only problem now is aiptasia, starting to grow everywhere. I will either get Copperband butterfly or Berghia nudis to take care of it. For now I am using the electric wand to keep those in check, but I want more permanent solution. I think Berghia will be better, as they can get everywhere and eat the whole aiptasia. Only worry I have are mine two wrasses, I am afraid they will hunt those nudis.

What was your trick to get your Nitrates down to 5ppm with all that feeding?

Have you thought about adds some Electric Flame Scallops? I think they would do well and look really good in your tank.

You have me thinking about re-designing my sump idea so I can have an area for NPS corals. Just what I needed more work, thanks a lot. ;-))

Vodka!!! I am finally at the dose that reduced nitrate to 5 PPM ( 10 ml. a day), I took it slow...., never really thought of flame scallops as they are almost impossible to keep long term.

Vodka, for you or the tank or both?? ;-)) Is adding vodka the same as carbon dosing or is that something different?

It would be interesting to see how flame scallops would do in a tank like yours. I think most of the problems people are having keeping them long term is they don't do their homework and put them in the wrong tank setups. I've never had them so I could be wrong but I think I'll give them a try after doing a little more research in the future.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. :)

Vodka is a form of carbon dosing

Lol, for me and some for fish too :), just like Jay said above, vodka like vinegar or even biopellets is a form of carbon dosing. I like vodka, as is cheap, very easy to control and in addition with bacteria dosing it works great, at least for me.

Its nice that you share with your fish. :aquariumsmile2f:

Carbon and bacteria dosing, great something new for me to research. I have to stop reading your threads you keep giving me homework. ;-))

MMreef Any thoughts on trying to keep colonial tunicates? With your frequent feeding regimen, you might be able to keep some of these stunning sea critters.
