My "Tanked" Tank

The best builds are the one's that are the hardest to start. Now if you were selling the tank at, say, $.20 per gallon, then you're crazy to try this, and you should let me take it off your hands.

Don't give up!

If your window installer isn't going to coordinate with the tank install, then simply have the window removed and board up the window until the new ones can be installed.

You had said initially that you were interested in having a picture window installed in its place once the tank is taken in through the opening. Not sure how you will get a "picture window" installed because that area of the house is octogon shaped.

I am an architect and would be willing to provide guidance on how to get this thing in, but we have to be realistic. Measure up that front center window and provide the measurements. We can go from there.

i agree i will be more than happy to buy but would be really cool to see it get in and set up with your dream ehh ethier way keep us posted

dont give up i wish i could help. and chris where the hell are you gonna fit that tank in your house lol unless you somehow get it in your basement but still it be real pain. but it is true the best tanks are the hardest at planing. be positive once it gets started itll look amazing and remeber to maybe reinforce the home if it needs to be.

Hmm, starting to get depressed about the whole thing. Had a buddy of mine come over and he is so negative about the whole thing; it won't fit, why did you buy it, you don't need it, it won't go there, just sell it etc.

I got a friend like that too well actually 2 and I do 1 of 2 things........#1 ignore him or when he really starts getting negative #2 tell him to just shut the f*@# up and/or leave, and if I were to listen to either one of them I wouldn't have some of the cool things that I have. As far as lifting it up there either backing up the trailer to the window or the back up a pickup will probably be higher, if you need some1 with a pickup I got 1 and am on the south side also about 15 to 20 min down Cicero ave. from Midway. I'm in a wheelchair so I wouldn't be able to help with lifting but I have no problem coming over with my pickup to move it. Then the window guy just has to install the window and should have nothing to complain about. Oh ya I don't drink beer so Crown Royal will do.:becky:

You guys are so funny! Crown Royal it is! Just had another window guy come and take a look. Not a scam like the last one. He liked how I slid the tank project in the middle of the window project. He did say he has some big Irish helpers (probably his kids) but his only concern is how to get it up that high, about 6 feet. I don't know how we're going to do that yet.

You guys and my boyfriend convinced me to stick through with this project since I can't afford the telephone booth tank from the tv show.

I'm only working on the two middle windows and the space in between which is 58". Tank is is 42". The only logistics left to figure out is how to get it that high. I don't know if 6 guys can lift 600 pounds 6 feet in the air.

I have a handyman who I guess used to design fish tanks and he has a volume calculator. He figured out the tank holds 391 gallons and will weigh 3200 lbs when full. The lady who listed this was nuts with her measurements and gallon capacity. She was way off. With the weight of the stand the handyman will be able to figure out how to brace the floor which will be easy to do from the basement.

I'm following Skunkerx's advice and told my army buddy to drop and give me 20. I couldn't chase him out yesterday because he was putting a door in for me. I pickup might be easier but I have to sand rust off the stand frame and repaint it. The whole thing will have to sit on top of the trailer just as it would on the pickup but both pieces can fit on the trailer at the same time.

I'm just worried because of the surgery I'm having will leave me with only one had to work with for a while. The set up sounds so complicated even with two hands.

All the workings for this will be in the basement.

The window guys and handyman don't have problems with this but I just don't have a plan yet for getting it up into the air. Who has suggestions?

I am being wishy washy with this because I love reef tanks so much but get so terribly bored with the standard rectangle tank. No offense reefers. I can't afford any of the cool tanks on the tv shows nor can I afford to have a fancy one built. This one came along, I used my salesmanship skills to get it cheap but the project is turning out to be more than I thought. I almost contacted Lunacris but then I look at my boring 120 gallon and get inspired to make this work again.......jeez....women!......we're all crazy.

maybe back the trailer up to the window and I have a engine lift and some nylon straps you can use to lift the tank up there with?

How much does the tank weigh empty? It probably wouldn't be too hard to make two 4"x4" uprights with a steel bar connecting them at the top. Then, you might be able to use some sort of pulley system, and lift the tank with the pick up, guiding it into place with your assorted handyman.

Am I making sense?

yeah i was thinking an engine lift also but then how????????????????????? hmmmmmmmm. still thinking. that pulley thing sounds good but from the roof if possible i cant see the roof tho to say yes or no. where are you located?

I would use and engine lift or other type of pulley system.

That isn't however the only piece of equipment I think you need. Also, get some painters scaffolding which can be installed on the ground outside the window. This is rent-able.

Then, put a roller frame on the scaffolding. This will allow you to lift the tank up on top of the scaffolding with the engine lift, then roll it over to the window. If you get everything to line up, then have a team of people inside to pull it in and man handle it onto the stand.

Make sure you have the floor reinforced before installing the tank. Even that tank without water in it will cause the floor to deflect.

Rent some bricklayers scaffolding. You can get it 3'and5' tall. Lift it onto the 3' scaffolding then onto the 5' tall scaffolding then into the window. with a couple guys should not be to hard or you can rent a genie lift with the fork extension grab two 2x4 and a sheet of plywood to make a skid for the lift and one person can lift it up to the window by themselves then a couple of guys can side it into the window.I don't think a engine lift will work if it's 6' to the bottom of the window plus the hight of the tank the engine lift would have to be 10' tall do they make a engine lift that tall?

mrz it would go in my house im in would be for the house to be built in a year or so but i know my two ten isnt nearly as heavy but two guys carried it to my bsmnt not saying it was easy but we also moved it with sand 6 or 7 people would be able to lift if all same hieght try looking into someone with a fork lift rental if you can find someone or even rent one from rsc rentals we could build a pallet and get it to the window and do the hard lifting inside to minimize man power needed and stress on tank one slip while over head and its bad news for everyone ur tank and others below ill look into that rental for ya

try calling these guys with specs and approx weight rsc rentals and rhilifts probally will need a boom type lift but might be best way alsom might want to wait until weather gets a bit better or do it soon while still kinda dry

I would rent a lull fork lift and just worry about people sliding it off inside. No one to get hurt trying to lift it over their heads which is way harder then just carrying a tank at waist level.

It's around 600 empty I think, it only took 3 professional movers to lift it on and off the stand and put it on dollies to move to truck. The metal stand feels like 300 or 400.

Standard cartage can store and move almost anything heavy. let them take the responsibility. they will also tell you how to get the tank in.

got it on a flatbed utility trailer which is about 2 feet off ground. Was going to rent a scaffold and lift 2more feet to scaffold then 2more feet to window. Can't think on that anymore today with bad headache.

The stand is made of steel which is rusted. Seller didn't tell me this either. Stand weighs at least anther 400. So what do you think if I build another stand with 2 x 4s or composite plastic?
