My worst nightmare comes true! :(

Mike,

Man that sucks. I was heartbroken when I lost 3 anthias due to a short outage. I can't imagine losing all your livestock :(

My tank is in good shape now. Lots of LE SPS and some frags made up already of the good stuff. No pests. Let me know when you want to come by and I'll be happy to help you out with frags.

Sorry bout ur loss bro.. If ur interested i can donate some zoas and palys and some fish to get u back going like chromis and some benghai carinal fish.. Just keep ur head up bro..

That SOOOOOOOOOO sucks and I saw it for the first time this past Sunday!

Mike, you've been so generous with your sticks, I'll give you what's ready to frag!

Hey Mike - Sorry to hear about your tank. Seems like mother nature has figured out that power malfunctions are a way to claim what is hers in our own reefs. Keep your head up.

Chad

Sorry I was thinking about getting the apex system thinking twice now

I can't tell you how generous all of you are. That's why I consider all of you an extension my family. Thank you all so much for your help rebuilding my tank.

It's not necessarily all on Neptune, but regardless what you go with, try to have a contingency plan. Equipment fail, but if we can learn from our fellow reefers' experiences, we can try to better the hobby and the community :)

Sorry for Ur loss OP!
Edit: I know it's a little late (but for the others), Ostrow over at RC has mentioned never taking out a skeleton because he said around the 90-100 day mark, he starts to see regrowth on some stuff. Always keep hope guys! (Unless you don't have space for a graveyard, lol)

I've seen deaths of fish and corals after 5 hours with no flow or heaters. It's crazy how fast bad things can happen. It's a fragile little world.

oh for sure, I wans't saying that it takes that long, just reiterating the OP's statement. the biggest issue is no flow, that's what kills everything, the heat usually doesn't drop enough over 5 hours, etc.

exactly, there are ways you can setup so it has enough time to spit out an email in case of a outtage. i dont have that setup. but one day

When I got the text from Mike about this tragedy my heart fell threw my butt, saw and smelled the damage in person. Looks like I know how I'm spending my semester of school off. LET THE REBUILD BEGIN!!!

I also forgot about this guy floating around when I got home.

A good thing to look into is a natural gas generator. If you own your own home, you can set it up where it takes over as soon as power to the house is disrupted. My father has one on his house. He doesn't have a reef tank but lives in a flood zone and doesn't want his sump pump to not work, or have to mess with a gas generator. It's dead silent when running too. I'm not sure what they cost, but could find out as soon as he returns from vacation if anyone is interested. It would give some peace of mind for those times the power goes out, or you are away and it does. The generator would tie into your gas line, and just sit behind the house. I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap as you would need to have both a plumber and electrician to hook it up. Just an idea. I'll be getting one whenever I get around to buying a house.

And Mike, sorry again for your loss. I couldn't even imagine coming back to find something like that.

I learned my lesson on having my main pumps plugged into my controller a few months ago. My three year old love's hitting buttons and watching things turn on and off. And one weekend I was making dinner while the kids were playing. Well a few hours went by and I wasn't paying attention to the tank. I looked up at to see my angels swimming around after lights out . This was strange cause even if I turn the lights on and leave them on after seven o'clock they are hiding and resting for the night. I walked up to the tank to notice the moon lights on but every outlet on my pc4s were flashing orange and not on. . No pumps no heater nothing was on but the moon lights. The temp was down three degrees in just s few hours and the back overflow was dried out. I had to reboot the whole system twice to get everything back on line. After that happened I worked my layout on my outlets so if my controller losses power the basic life support systems are still up .moon lights heater and filter pump. At leastthen the filter stays wet and I have minimum flow.
