New tank. ADA 60-F Bommie style! 9 gallon shallow

Nice tank! Have you thought about doing some mangroves in this tank? One or two sticking up out of the water would add a lot to the display in my opinion.

one word "beautiful" i give it a month and if you stock up a bit more on coral i give it the tank of the month in my book

Yeah - definately thought about it - but having done that much research into them.. I've also looked into other salt tolerant species of plants that are both air and water like mangroves (salt cedars)

I think tanks look really cool with a lot of flora surrounding them outside the tank.. potted plants and such .. I plan to add some more around the tank

Awesome! I almost pulled the trigger on a small blueberry gorgonian at the LFS today.. they also had some other, nice non photo pieces of carnacian (sp?) that the employee didn't know exactly what they were, he referred to them as non photo versions of colt, or leather corals.. (said they were like liminalia?) - anyway, they were a vibrant yellow with pastel purple polyps, veeeeeeery nice. I'll upload some pics later

Great looking tank. I love the proportion.

Thanks my mans - that was something I hoped to accomplish with the layout and lightly stocking. .

the 60-f's are really beautiful tanks, and the shallow dimensions allow you to play around with scapes in a different way.

Here's some pics of the non photo pieces chicago fish and coral had for sale -

The more yellowish one was supposedly a liminadia (sp?) some sort of carnatian coral I believe

Here is a photo of how the tank looks low tide - I had to turn off the pump to double up the sump with another rubbermaid bin because I was scared about how much it was bulging.

Here's a chiton? I have a few of them that scoot around the rock - always pleased to see them.. they are almost invisible though! exact same color as the rock..

Lots of new happenings since last update -

Midwest Coral Farms had a real nice event for chicagoreefs, great store, my first time there - AND they hooked me up with a $75 gift certificate!

The spoils!

Also picked up an awesome new naked clown which has paired with the other, but not until it almost got ripped in half by the older and much bigger, now Mrs. Clown. Grabbed a fire shrimp ($21 was a great deal. normally see them for $30) 2 sexy shrimp and called it a night.

Earlier that day in a trade with a local, I also picked up a dendro head (didn't realize how bright they were) , a small unknown yellowish sps frag and a tiny carnacian coral!

A friend also hooked me up with some feather caulerpa which was a nice touch to the tank~

Everything banging right now, couldn't be happier with how its looking.. (isn't that great?)
Acclimating new things

updated photos!

lots new since last update -

Had a tank crash while I was on vacation (caretaker unplugged mp10 and took lights off timer without telling me for some reason.. oh yeah, and fed almost an entire bag of rod's food over a week) .. lost a lot of coral - one of the clowns jumped

rebooted the tank.. went with a different substrate that doesn't blow around .. picked up a new pagoda cup and re-rigged my lighting!

cooooool

What an amateur I was a month ago - how the wind changes.. P.U. and my tank a month ago - but things have definitely gotten better.

I made a custom light bar out of pvc - picked up another par38 12K for over the tank and lowered the lights by almost 10" (They're about 20" off the sandbed now)

My alveopora died a true death even though I don't use a skimmer and spot fed live phyto a few times a week - guess my tank wasn't old enough

Spotted mandarin and bluestripe pipe coming up next - catch ya on the flip side yo!

Looks great,i would not get a mandarin or pipefish for the tank however, they are very picky and you could never produce enough food to keep one alive let alone both. Now if you get a mandarin that eats frozen, you're ok.Good luck.
