Small update!

It is Christmas in July!

Today I received my Bridgelux LEDs, Makers Heatsink, Apex Controller, power supply, Meanwell Drivers and Hyper Violet LEDs.

All I am waiting for now are all the Steves LED Luxeons.

ohh and I got this bad boy. Thank you Mr. Lutman!

The quality of the Sump is fantastic and since it is custom it fits perfectly into my stand. William Lutman does an excellent job. Highly recommended.

Hopefully next week I can get the LED fixture completed start on plumbing the tank.

So for my powerheads in the tank, I think I will use the current MP10 that I have and the Jebao WP25 that I just got in with the group buy. I am hoping that will not b to much flow.

Presents arrive again!

-40lbs of Reef Saver Dry rock from BRS
-All pipe fitting I will need
-Carbon/GFO Reactor
-Actual Carbon GFO

Also got my ATO reservoir from Will Lutman today. My dad picked it up since they live close together. Excellent craftsmanship as always.

Man I wish I wasnt going out of town this weekend so I can start putting together this bad boy.

Hey lets see a pic of the ATO reservoir, may I ask what ya paid for it? Or how much he charges for one? Nice looking stuff bro. I purchased BRS Pukani rock and I wish I had ran it through fresh water for a week or two prior to setting up, I just assumed it would be "cleaner" but I had a major ammonia issue and a cloudy haze for several weeks, which I assume was due to the dry rock, since I had never experienced it before with live rock set ups... Not sure how the reef saver is compared to Pukani, but you may "cook" it as they say.

Here is a picture of the ATO res

The ATO + Sump was $230..I think the ATO was $60 of that. It is an odd size. 4x16x23. Made it so that it fit perfectly into my stand by my sump.

I read online that the pukani rock is actual reef rock and needs to be cured because it may have dead sponges and other things on it. The Reef Saver is quarry rock that should not have to be cured, but I will put it in some boiling water just to get all the dust off.

Got the rest of my stuff in.

I also decided on a Super Reef Octopus XP1000SSS. Should be here next week. I also started the LED build. Everything is laid out, but not screwed on yet. What do you guys think of the LED setup?

Man, I dig those LEDs, totally different than mine. I might have to pick your brain on your selection at some point. Can't wait to see them running.

I built the LED setup today. Total time to build was about 12 hours. 4 hours was spent building and the rest was spent bashing my head trying to figure out why my PWM setup wasnt working. Turns out I forgot to ground the PWM signal to the PCB board the Meanwell Drivers were attached to...DOH

Lets begin...

First I mounted all of the LEDs and PCB Boards. The PCB board you see in this picture is the Steves LED Aquarium Controller. This converts the 1-10V signal the Apex sends and converts it to PWM.

Here is everything wired up.

This thing is crazy bright. I cannot see myself running it anywhere near 100%

I added a fan controller to to the two fans to be able to control the speed of the fans.

Nice man, I feel your pain haha. I definitely learned a $h*t ton about electrical when I built mine. Looking good, I really like those optics. Going to have to get your number and call soon lol.

Anyone have any opinions on using PVC vs flex line plumbing?

I feel like a stalker responding to all your posts, but ummmm....yeah.... Flex line is so much more forgiving. I like the way my schedule 80 looks, but it was pretty rough getting everything fit without any leaks. I think it really boils down to aesthetics, because I cant see any other difference as far as durability or strength, looks versus forgiveness. My next build will be flex line lol, maybe I can find it in grey ;)

Got my skimmer today! This thing is a beast.

9405997290_e6fa9c7b30_b.jpg

I am a little confused though. The instructions say to have the skimmer in 5.5" of water, but the water line drawn on the skimmer is about 10.5" up. You can kind of see the line in the picture. Anyone have any input on this as this is my first full size skimmer?

Thanks,

Yury

reading up on biopellets and cant decide if I should get a reactor to start up or see if I need one after the tank has established.
