Project Erebor

Your point is very well taken and thank you for all the advice you have given me through out this build. I will for sure start thinking about how to setup a QT tank. I will be debating on if I want to use my biocube as a QT or just get a smaller 10-20G tank and set that up as a QT.

A day late, but here is an update!

Everything has been moved over from my old tank to the new one. Most everything seems to be adapting well and am getting good polyp extension on everything excpet for one Milli. Hoping that changes :(

Below are some pics:

I am looking for a good sized colony to add more depth to the tank.

Looks great man, I really want some zoa colonies. Think I will focus on that next ;) That angel nip much? I'd like to get one, just too afraid lol.

Well....an update...sad update, but update none the less. I have not been posting much in this thread because I have been dealing with some tank issues. The main one being what I think is Ich. I did not heed Doug's advice in time and because of it got ich. Not sure what brought it into my tank, but something did. I lost my little flame angel to it because the QT tank did not come up quick enough. The other fish have been put into QT and are being treated with copper...boy did I learn my lesson. Nothing goes into my tank now without being QTed first a few weeks first...nothing.

Coral wise everything is doing great! I am looking at getting a nice macro lense to take some of those cool photos you all are taking that I just cant seem to do. Growth with the corals has been great. Still trying to get them to color up properly.

I have been tracking Mg,Ca and Alk and decided it was time to automate my dosing. I purchased a couple of dosing pumps and will hopefully get them in next week.

Sad update complete.

Hang in there. I used to roll the dice with new fish and had multiple fish deaths due to my carelessness. This is a valuable lesson and one that is hard to teach without going through the experience. Hell, just six months ago I got a case of the flukes and I DID QT, and I've been doing this since 1999. You'd think I'd know to treat with copper AND prazipro during QT after keeping fish for this long. . One more lessen learned for me. Luckily no fish deaths on that lesson, but it was still a big ordeal. You'll recover from this!

Sorry Yury, I hope you don't have any more losses!!! Hang in there buddy!! How did your test go for the product you purchased? I think there was another thread for it, but I'm too lazy to look lol. I have been in the middle of my relocation to Michigan and haven't had time to lurk the forums lately ;)

Thanks for the kind words...I wish I heeded your advice sooner. You live, you learn I guess.

The Seneye works great. The par meter seems to work great and also gives light intensity and a spectral graph of what it sees. I cannot compare accuracy since I do not have an apogee meter to compare to. So far I think it is great and well worth the 100 bucks I got it for.

It did help me see that my par was way lower than what I thought so I have been ramping up my lighting slowly to get it to where I want it (about 1000par at the water line and 250-300 at the sand bed.

That's awesome, I really need to check into one. Thank you for the testing! Crypto has to be one of the most frustrating things in this hobby, but once you whoop it's arse, you will have great peace of mind ;) Just stay positive and don't let it get you down, losing fish and battling it is the hardest part, but a part you can easily overcome. Keep the updates coming, I always enjoy your posts and tank progress.

Some updates on my battle with fish disease...

So I think my fish had brookellyna and not crypto. Below is a picture of my clown a day after the flame died...

That fish did not survive the night... So far my loses to this disease have been a bicolor blenny I had for 1 year, the clown I had for 1 year and the flame I just got a few weeks ago.

All fish are now in QT. I was in the process of beginning my cupramine treatment when I realized this may not be Crypto, but brook. I read that brook does not respond to copper. Luckely, I found something else that unlike coper actually treats flukes, ich and brook. It is called Chloroquine Phosphate. This stuff was original used to treat maleria, but it also works for fish. It does not have any signifact side effects like copper does.

Here is an article about it.

I added the CP to my tank this afternoon at about 60mg/L of water. I am hoping this works.

Currently I have 3 fish left. A Orange-stripped tang that does not look sick at all, a Bangaii cardinal that also does not look sick and 1 clown. The clown was not looking great this morning. It was swimming on its side and breathing pretty heavy, but now, just a couple of hours after adding the CP it is swimming up right. The Clown is still breathing heavy but looking a little better.

Hoping everything gets better from here on out.

well I came home today and the clown is looking much better. He is swimming around and not on its side! Exciting news!

So I havent update in a while! The tank is doing great now! Pics below
