Pulled the trigger on the 240. OMG OMG OMG

Hey neighbor, let me know if I can help out at all. I also have some crappy green palys , devils hand, and kenya tree that you are welcome too, as well.

It'll be a while before I need inhabitants. This will be in-wall so I'm building my basement around it. What I may need is strong backs to get it downstairs.

Oh, update on the wife. She loves it, says its beautiful. :). She is not into this hobby at all, so that was nice to hear.

If you get suction cups, then rent many. Those ratings are for perpendicular force, not parallel vertical force. I got a couple of double suction cups that were rated 200lbs each, and they were that strong for perpendicular force. But using them for side panels was fruitless. For a tank that size and weight, you need men, plain and simple. Nice tank, looking forward to seeing it's progress. Post lots of updates and pics.

So, it's a straight shot down to the basement from the garage only maybe 30 feet, but you have to go through three doors and a stairwell so there's no room for men on the sides. So, two guys on each end? I was thinking four cups, one on each side near the end, so each guy would have one hand under the short end and one hand on a side cup on the long end.

So, cups are good for a pane of glass that might try to tilt over, but by parallel force you mean it can still slide down? So are cups a waste of money?

Correct, they slide up or will just break loose because there is too much force being put on one side of the cup. Not all cups are the same. There are some that are designed for lifting side panes, but they are very expensive. When I moved my 150G tank down to the basement, I used gravity. It was me and 2 other guys, we just maneuvered it and let it slide slowly down on its own weight.

Anddddd it's almost up. I'm filling it with water now, which is a slow process because my RO/DI unit is tiny. I should take some pics, but it's extremely bare bones at this point. Homemade stand, homemade sump, basic plumbing for overflows and returns. Water flows nicely, I need a few days to fill it so I can mix salt in it. I have to mix salt in the tank because I don't have anything else that large to mix it in without making batch after batch. I'm using a 44g Brute trashcan for RO/DI storage at the moment, which I occasionally pump into the display. I want to be there when I pump it since I've had this tank a long time but never water tested it. So far it's rock solid.

Bought sand and extra salt from AquaPros today. On a scale of 1 to 5 stars, I'd punch the guy who limited me to only 5 so I could get them at least 7 stars. They're rock stars over there, beyond helpful and excellent prices.

It is in-wall, so I've got my little fish room going, still have some supplies to sort out. I need to get my old skimmer back up and make sure it works, going to hurt to find out if it's dead from storage. Need to figure out how I'm going to aquascape this guy too.

Going to start fish only because I don't want to shell out for the lighting right away, but can't wait another year to get a few fish in there.

Also, thank you vpaul1979 if you're still around, I did not use suction cups. We used a giant furniture movers strap that a neighbor has for some reason and seven guys muscled it downstairs gently. I was worried the cheap basement stairs would break with all the guys and 450lbs of glass, so I reinforced them.
