Reef sites?

@ SkullV

What does Uberfrags have that we are missing? Personally I have never been into forums until recently. I think it has to do with our meetings and being able to meet someone in person after talking with them here and then being able to buy.,sale or trade soon after.

It's what they don't have. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad forum. There are a few problems holding it back from rising to its full potential though.

I only frequent, rc, über and here...über is pretty dead though....for small sites, I think we need to limit the number of different forums, spreads posts around to thin. Although both Chicago reefs and über have the nice home page that shows recent posts, no matter what forum. For the most part I only view those, versus hunting thru each indv forum.

As far as big sites go. My main one has always been Reef Sanctuary. I mainly use RS for research. I also look to RC for sales and research. However, RC is almost always veeeerrrryy slow to open pages. I'm guessing because they have so much traffic. I recently signed up for R2R and have been lurking around there a bit.

I really only post here for the most part. I guess it seems more "real" since everyone is relatively local and I've had the opportunity to meet many of the members here.

yup!

Very well said. Marketing a site as a place where there are giveaways and free advertising is how you end up with a site like ChicagoReefs with 800+ registered members, ~200 signed in every 24 hours, and only 20 who post. Then you get 100+ at the free event with a free raffle.

SkullV, man that make total senses! I never thought about it that way!

thereeftank is where i learned everything i kno. lots of info there, very active site. ppl are nice n thats really the only thing inforced is dont flame sum1 in public scaring ppl from posting again. they usually have alot of cool stuff in their classifieds

Ted, I feel kinda insulted here. The team and I been working our butt off to make a nice community for everybody. But you have been nothing but controversial. I just dont understand it. Months ago, you were banned for reasons I dont want to into. And then you went on your way. But as the site got more active, you wanted back in. The team was nice enough to give you a second opportunity because you said you would be a model citizen. You have been nothing but controversial and very critical of this site since you came back. You are a helpful and knowledgeable reefer, and Im sure you have helped countless reefers, but there's only so much of this we will take from you. Come on and stop worrying about how this site is ran, who its ran by, and everything else that happens backdoor and just enjoy it for what it is.

Uberfrags.net is actually not Dead for the many that have stated. especially if you have not been on the site to notice..

I notice. I just checked it out again just now. You're right it's not dead, it just gets shocked to life every few days. Haha ;)

Glad to see someone else is on the reef tank, I was beginning to wonder. This is also where I gained to bulk of my reefing knowledge. A poster on trt suggested chicago reefs to me.

I came over from aquariumadvice.com, but I am still active there. Haven't had much time for forums lately. I like chicsgoreefs the best simply because its local and more reality based.

I typically use Chicago Reefs and Reef Central. I like being able to meet up with local reefers and having them within arms length. Plus everyone here is really nice and well-behaved. Most of the LFS I go to, I discovered via CR.

Reef Central has a huge following so the wealth of knowledge from being well-established and the sheer number of posters is very much appreciated. If I can't find info on there, it's probably not on the internet.

The other reason those are my most visited sites is because I can access them. I'm in Investment Banking so many forums are blocked by my IT dept per SEC regulations. :spy:

Just wanted to voice my displeasure with having my link to Reef Central deleted today. Based on the way this forum was founded and initially advertised you would think that would not be an issue. ESPECIALLY when the link was only to help another reefer find a tank that is not advertised on this site.

I was under the impression that this forum was striving to be something different.

We can't link to other sites?

Until today I thought it wasn't a problem. This is what was at the bottom of my post:

It seems that subsequently another member recommended the same tank without the link.

+1
We all moved away from reefcentral because of the censorship there.
