Been there and know the feeling Gunner.....hope your corals turn around soon! Whatever coral you lose that I grabbed from you, I'll throw back your way.

Thanks. I was just thinking about doing an update earlier. I put my old Ocean Revives lights back up and everything has turned around. I've got PE again and things are going from dying and brown to healing and coloring back up. Even my vivids rainbow is showing reds and purple, and we all know that is an almost impossible coral to keep colored up.

Before putting my ORs back up, I made it so my blue channels are all blue. I used to run a few whites in them. I think those whites being driven at high percentages were something my corals dislikes. The light over my sump has an all blue channel and has always had better PE than my DT.

As my tank was going down, I cut frags of most everything and put them in my sump. The only thing that I completely lost was my Hyperberry colony and a palmers blue Millie. Most colonies took a hit but will come around. I actually lost my nub of WD recently too. Like....it actually fell off of my rock and I lost it.

Anyway, things are coming around. I really lost interest in my tank when it looked terrible.

Glad to hear it's all coming back for you. Loved that tank when I saw it the one time.

Glad it is coming back around for you also. I'm hopeful when my tank is up and running you'll be ready to cut some frags!

similar experience to me over the last couple of weeks .. i raised my radion whites from 26% to 45% and suddenly everything started looking bland and then my pink lemonade is all dark, couple of sps colored nicely ( WD and other rainbows) but others actually got darker and rough skinned. i decreased the whites back to 25% and seems like they are comming back ..

Funny thing is on my old buld before my vacation i used to run the same Radion whites at 50% and they were all fine :dontknow: corals are funny things ..

SPS are the most challenging and frustrating coral. They give me great joy when they are healthy and when they aren't, like Gunner I can't walk past the tank. If I'm home, I can keep them colored beautifully. When I'm away is when all heck breaks loose. So that boils down to tank cleanliness/nutrition/alk which varies when I'm away and lighting which I can keep consistent. I now keep a heavy blue with whites in the 10 percent and only beef up the whites when I want to show off the tank when I'm home. I keep my alk around 9 so if my dosing is off a bit, it won't dip below 7 while away. This has kept my SPS healthy and somewhat more resilient from stn.

What has kept me in the hobby and prevented me from throwing everything away is a clownfish that will be 12 yrs old and reefers like Gunner that replace frags that I purchase if something goes wrong down the line. I told Gunner when I purchased from him, that he has a duplicate set of frags waiting for him if anything goes wrong with his tank. I have met some good people reefing, I have your back!

The last big purchase will be a alk monitor.....#%*#+#

I've been hating my tank so much that I haven't even let myself watch that Chasing Coral movie on Netflix. Now that my tank is coming back, I think I'll watch it tonight.

Little update and an excuse of why I never check in here. My tank lives at my condo, but I live elsewhere due to the fire. I have to go there every few days to check on it. The fire mitigation crew blew a breaker and the tank was without power for overtwo days. My angels and tangs that I've had for nearly ten years are dead. I only have my triggers and a clown left. My corals took a little hit, but I didn't lose much. They're coming along nicely now since I never screw around with the tank. Our place is soon to be a huge construction zone, so I'm going to have to move my tank from it's current location to the bedroom in the back, do all of teh construction work, then set it up again in the original spot. I'm not really sure how I'm going to pull it all off. I might need to borrow a stock tank from someone.

I have a 55 gallon and 30 gallon sump laying around if you need it.

No charge since you hooked me up with Corals

Well, the time has come. This weekend, I will take my tank down and move it to my back bedroom while the rest of my condo is renovated. I’m not exactly sure how I’ll pull this off and I’m REALLY not looking forward to this. My rock work is all epoxied together and has SPS encrusted all over it. For fish, I only have my two triggers left.

I’m not sure if I’ll just set up my 75 gallon sump as a display or if I’ll set up the whole system again, but probably not have a sump. I think I’m going to get a new DT without overflows when I set the system back up in its place.

Some of my SPS colonies are looking bad, but a few of them are thriving. I’ve not done a water change since August and I’ve barely emptied the skimmer cup. My tangs are dead so there is nothing eating algae.

Any thoughts on how you guys would handle this?
