Siebo's 65gal RR Build

So walked by the tank last night and thought why is it so cloudy! Opened up the door to the sump and the skimmer overflowed. I skim dry so it dumped almost 2 weeks worth of skimmate back in the tank. Skimmer was going nuts, so many bubbles it looked like someone poured dish soap in the sump. Everything in the DT was pissed off. So did a 30% water change last night and will do another this afternoon. Tested PO4 this morning and it was .25, not good but, not as bad as I thought is would be.

Everything seems happy this morning though.

Lesson learned: Empty the damn skimmer cup more often!

This happens to me every now and then. I skim fairly wet and dump the cup every few days, so it isn't quite as bad as what you described.

New FTS with iPhone. I will get the DSLR out soon.

So I have alway been live and let live in my reef unless things misbehave. I have had a gorilla crab in the tank for a while now. Spotted it over a year ago. It was small seem to pose no harm. It lately grew something crazy. See pick below. That is a quarter in the bucket for size ref. It has started to get aggressive with my maroon clown lately and just comes out when ever. It attacked the feeder stick a couple weeks ago. This morning I came down and looked at the tank as usual and was like where F is my scoly. I look up under the rock where the crab hides and that SOB had dragged it 6-8 inches and 3-4 inches up off the sand bed into the rocks. I pulled it out and the crab had torn it up bad. Not sure if it will live. Time to evict the A hole. So tonight it was hiding behind a rock and I took my tongs out and move the rock forward and the crab squared off with tongs. His brazen ass made life easy for me. In to the bucket you go. It was pissed.

I had a huge crab wreck the 29 I had overnight. Glad it was easy for you to remove. Sorry to hear about the scoly hopefully it will heal up

I have decided to keep the 65g and put it up in the new house. So the planning begins. I plan to set it up in January. The tank sits dry and clean in the garage right now.

I will need to refinish the stand and canopy as the floors and cabinets are dark in the house.

The tank will go on this wall in place of this small table.

All of the plumbing will go through the floor and into the basement. Yes I have a semi fish room in part of the storage area in the basement. Sump, QT, water reservoir, frag tank, etc will go here.

WC's will be done with the flip of a switch as the slop sink is 6 foot away and my RO/DI unit is already there. So freaking happy about this.

Aquascape:
This will be a sps dominated tank.
There will a vertical island against the overflow to hold 2-3 pieces of Tonga branch 24 -30 inches long that will extend over to the right side of the tank creating a suspended canopy. Sps will be glued along the Tonga to eventually fill in the canopy. Nothing will touch the sand bed on the right 2/3 to half of the tank.

Equipment:
Skimz sn143 (need to buy)
Jebao dosing pump
DC 6000 return pump. Need to check head pressure. May need a bigger one.
2 RW-15's
JBJ ATO
Currently have the group buy LED's but will be looking for an 8 bulb ATI fixture soon.
Finnex titanium heater. I will have 2
Controller will come later.

Filtration:
I think I am going the run a sump and a refugium. I can split the drain to feed both and then let the refug drain into the sump as well. Having the refug would also help with water volume and to do WC's. Thoughts on this?

Open to ideas or things I am missing.

That would work nicely. I used to have a basement sump and ran a 75 gallon fuge that was about 40" fuge and then a return section. I put a 150 watt halogen spot light over there and chaeto would grow so incredibly fast!

Did that keep a pretty good handle on your PO4? I assume so.

Oh yeah it worked like a charm. That was years ago on a 75 gallon sps tank. I had a coralife super skimmer 125 which did practically nothing. So, I basically relied solely on the fuge for nutrient exportation.

Awesome news! You are going to love having the basement sump and doing nearly all maintenance down there!!! The only thing you have to do to the display is clean the glass, feed, and enjoy!

With that much "dead space" against the wall you should totally go with a bigger display!!!:bandevil:
