SkullV's Aquarium Adventures

Thanks man! I wish I had more time in Chicago the other day. Would have loved to come see your tank again.

Sorry again about the bad pics, probably should have taken out the tripod.....Did some re-modeling last night too, almost all zoas are off the higher rocks and moved to rubble on the sand. That will allow for a more traditional zoo garden and room for some higher light stuff up top. 120 degree reflectors from Maxspect should be in my mailbox shortly too.

Looks great! But, uh, where'd the clam go?!:sherlock:

Looks like its off to the right

Yep, it wasn't happy in the middle for some reason, I'm guessing light was too intense there. I threw it over to the right as a temporary place when I was working in the tank and it opened all the way up, so that's where it will stay.

I think I've settled on keeping the Razor but retrofitting it with my custom spectrum that I have been using in all of my DIY LEDs. There are now three UV options on Rapid's site though so I'm not sure which combination to use. While using all three chips will be more "full spectrum" and probably better overall for coral growth; I'm worried that the tank will look too purple. That purple look is my biggest gripe with the Razor right now.

Looks good. So, what led chips did you go with? And how are you running them (schedule wise)?

So weird that this thing will only let me quote posts in my own thread. It's 18 3w Cree Royal Blue XT-E chips. They are basically just there for color supplement and dawn/dusk. I have a manual dimmer for them now but they will be controlled by the reefkeeper shortly to get that real sunrise/sunset.

T5 bulbs will probably just be 2x blue plus and 2x coral plus. I did order a purple plus but I doubt I'll use it.

its gonna b an awesome build. To bad ur not in Chicago anymore to go check it out.

All done! Right now running 2x blue plus and 2x coral plus. I get a very slight shimmer which is perfect and the spectrum is exactly what I'm looking for! A very crisp 18-20k depending on how high I run the LEDs.

I look at you go , looking great Ted

Tom

Thanks Tom! So happy to be back with T5. You can't beat the "pop" that comes with Royal blue led, but the other colors and spread of T5 are phenomenal. Hybrid really is the best of both worlds, even the realistic shimmer! I have a few friends out here running a MH/RB LED hybrid and it looks amazing as well!

Next step is to open it up again and use a pair of dimmable ATI ballasts instead of the single workhorse 7 that's in there now for all of the T5 bulbs.
