Spartanman22's Fluval M90

Alright so 10:00 came around last night and the fuge light didn’t turn on. Didn’t have the energy to play with it so I just went to bed. This morning when I woke up the fuge light was on. Playing around in Fusion this morning I believe I have found the problem. My fusion clock tile is displaying the correct time; however, there is a second clock tile (in blue) next to my orange clock tile. The blue clock tile is 2 hours behind. So for some reason the time zone must be goofed up in the apex. So hopefully when I get home I can get that sorted out.

Looks like you figured it out, that was going to be my suggestion to try looking for. Time likely wasn't synced. I've had issues with the light not coming on due to the temp fall back feature preventing the light from coming on, but otherwise it seems to have been working pretty well.

I love the end view!

I need to stop by with some cash and clippers; the tank is looking great. :)

Ha stuffs going to need clipping soon. I just wish that the fast growing stuff was the good stuff. The fastest growers are all my no-namers, except for the WD. That thing grows like a weed.

I’m actively trying to figure out how to add a frag tank.

I’ve had zero luck raising nutrients even a tiny bit, so I just ordered some Seachem Flourish and food grade sodium nitrate. Hopefully I can get some deeper, richer colors in the near future.

I’ve been reading up on it. I went with a lab grade, food grade sodium nitrate option to insure purity and QAQC Standards. Plan to start real slow and inch my way up to 2-5 ppm.

Yea they also sell KNO3 as well forget who sells it. Which is the same as stump remover just less expensive so I went with it.

Edit it's Made by Green Leaf

Ha thanks man appreciate it! I need a drag tank just to keep growing the collection! I’ve still got a lengthy must have list and no room! This trip to WWC next week is going to be interesting.

I was there last April for work and stopped by. Got a few nice frags for a decent price and if you let them know you are there on a trip (or show up with your suitcase on the way to the airport like me), they'll likely give you a tour of the back room!

By the way, the frag tank offer still stands.. even to expand your collection

Well if my eyes end up bigger than my bank account and tank space you may be hearing from me after my vacation! I’ve got a spot for 1-2 pieces. Hoping to get something really nice.

Really quite nervous about the state of my tank prior to a week long vacation. The lack of nutrients is really leaving my SPS looking pale and unhappy. I’ve been dumping food into the tank, shut off the fuge, dosing aminos. No luck. NO3 and PO4 are still zero.

Travel can cause you to "knee jerk" right before you go...stability is the name of the game.

Plus I've found it hard to "quick correct" things like nutrients. If anything you are likely to get a delayed reaction (once it is finally enough, its too much)...and you can't correct a reaction to change from afar.

Curious why you shut off the fuge...it adds volume(aka stability) and nutrients.

Any other changes? How much of what kind of aminos?

Curious, what has your ALK been, is it now, and how much growth have you had in the last month?

Shut down was not entirely correct. I used to run my fuge’s photoperiod 24/7. I now only run it 7 hours overnight. It was becoming too efficient. Chaeto growth was exploding and sucking up nutrients.

I have refrained from making any pre vacation changes. I know well enough that last minute changes never go well!

I’ve been dosing 2 drops of AF Amino Mix and 10 drops of AF Phyto Mix daily. I feed 1-2 cubes of mysis daily, and spectrum pellets twice a day.

I’ve got some changes I’ll be making once I get back from vacation. I’ll be dosing nitrates (very slow to start), and I’m going to go back to using acro power. I liked the acro power results better than AF.

I also plan to add a CO2 scrubber onto my skimmer. My pH is never above 7.9. I’ve been following Bubba on R2R and he said his addition of a CO2 scrubber and higher pH greatly improved the growth of his SPS.

My alk has been pretty steady around 7.5-7.8. Calcium around 420 and Mag around 1300.

Your parameters look solid,

Option B for the fuge is remove all but a baseball sized chunk of chaeto, that would limit amount of new growth and I'm sure you could fine people to take it off your hands :)

This doesn't help, but that sure seems like a lot of food for a tank that size with a smallish number of fish :dontknow: For reference, my tank is a 55g (75g system vol) and I have 10 fish (including a yellow tang) and only feed a big pinch of pellets twice a day. My tank isn't in the greatest of shape these days, but the ATS is still outputting a full load of algae every 2 weeks. Maybe you just need more fish

I like the C02 scrubber idea, but everyone I know that has used one gets frustrated with how often you have to replace the media. Depending on where your tank is located, another low cost/low effort thing to try is running a tube from your skimmer air inlet to the outside (with a little air filter on it to keep it from clogging).

Good luck!

I’ve been considering the airline to outside option too, but may be challenging.

I don’t get it! I feel like I’m pouring nutrients into this tank! I never had an issue when I had my geometric moray. He was such a messy eater, but he outgrew my tank. I’d like to add a golden dwarf moray but they are so pricey now.

I’d like to add more fish but my flame back is a bully. I’m very happy with the way my alk, calcium, and mag have been trending. I just need PO4 and NO3 to get above zero. Ive got some ideas and plans. They’ll just have to wait until after vacation.

I did lower the intensity on my ATI thinking the light may have been too intense. I never had paling issues with the leds, even with low nutrients. I think the T5’s blasted my tank with light. The first two weeks after the switch I had to increase my alk dose by nearly 1.0 mL per dose.

Woke up last night to the sound of my ATO pump screaming. Top-off float got stuck in the open position and my AIO filled up. Fortunately the ATO wasn’t full (5 gallon reservoir). I reckon I only added about 2 gallons of RODI and only lowered my salinity to about 1.022 from 1.025. Really dodged a bullet on that one.

Tank overfilled a little, bit not much. Fortunately I have a carpet cleaner currently rented to clean some of the carpets (mainly the fish tank room) now that the puppy is well past her potty training days.
