What LED's to go with?

Your just an ignorant person I guess to talk about a product that you never tried. I wouldn't talk about something I didn't own or no anything about. There is all kinds of ways to have a successful reef. And for the most part I love learning what others do in there systems sometimes its people like you that bug me cuz they think that there way or answer is always correct and is far from the truth
 
Personally, I like SkullV playing devils advocate against the AI Sol fixture. Some people get so wrapped up in the hype they forget to step back and pro/con the fixture for what it is. For those that already have one, if you like it, no harm no foul. For those trying to decide NOW what to buy, it's good to have a biased opinion against the fixture to see the flaws it has and decide if it is worth the money to buy it or look at something newer with better technology built in.

Ignorant would assume he doesn't know anything about the fixture, if you would read, you would see he has done extensive research on the fixtures and they did not meet his expectations...

Reread my previous posts, I never said there is one right way to light a reef, in fact I didn't even reccomend a single fixture. I won't comment any further on your posts, but I can speak from experience that your attitude will not get you very far on this forum.

I understand that you want to validate your purchase, and for some reason have to find a reason to attempt to discredit others purchases to validate your own, but I am simply pointing out that your assessment, and that tactic, is completely off base.

My assessment of the AI Sol and its lack of spectrum and coverage has nothing to do with validating my purchase. I'll say again, I feel that the coverage of the Radion is also somewhat lacking compared to the manufacturers chart. I have no bias against the AI Sol, functionally it is a great fixture and when it first came out it was the industry standard. There are, in my opinion, just many many better options out there in its current price range.

I wonder if you could change out the diodes with other 3w Bridgelux LEDs? Wasn't one of the big selling points of the Apollo fixture the fact that you could swap out individual diodes if one burnt out?

Maybe next year when my warranty runs out... For now, cool white and royal blue will have to do. IIRC, the board is actually designed to keep running if one burns up, so I dont see why i couldnt replace individual diodes with any other LED of comparable wattage/mA specs...
 
I get Ted post he is not bashing the ai as a fixture. Just discussing about the spectrum on it. Anyone that has the ai has a great fixture but a red led does make a difference in ur tank. I'm actually thinking about a green one down the road. Point is everyone has there likings. No need to get defensive on sumthing that u bought and not created. It's like getting annoyed that sum1 says frosted flakes suck and u love them. To each there own.
 
I understand guys. I just don't like when someone says that they are a cheap fixture ya know. It sounded kinda like a slam on those lights if you read the messages that were texted. I'm sorry to all if I got a little irritated I just didn't like that. I'm sorry again

I did talk to Joe from Apollo and now they can replace any LED chip on your existing fixture and put red or purple chip instead.I am thinking of sending my fixture to them and have this done.Cost is $6.50 per purple and $4 for reds.Also he charges $20 for the job.Of course shipping also needs to be paid. I just need to find replacement light fixture for the time mine is being customized.Once I have this done I will post results.

I have a 4' Nova Extreme Pro 6x54w you can borrow while yours is out. I would love to see an Apollo with 6 reds, 6 greens, and 2 purples in it!

Any reason that green was not offered? Green is even more important than red as far as coral florescence is concerned. Red is more of a human eye thing than a coral growth/color thing. Purple/UV is the one diode that I wish EcoTech added to the Radion. I'm sure it will be offered eventually as there is an open channel on the Radion driver, but who knows when that will happen.
 
He did offer green as well,I did not think I needed it.I am thinking adding 4 purples and 2 reds to each of my fixtures.I might add 2 green as well.I think adding 6 reds would be overkill, as Joe stated they are very powerful,in fact he suggested adding only one red per fixture.

Hmm, maybe it is because they will not be independently dimmable. I didn't think about that. In that case I would add 3 purple, 2 red, and 2 green with NO OPTICS (if possible) so that you get spread from those diodes all across the fixture.

Let me know if you need to borrow the T5.

You stated earlier that the AI sol is a 400 dollar fixture representing itself as a 700 dollar fixture.

The current pricing, and pricing for some time actually puts the fixture around 400 dollars.

I think that all people considering a move to LED lights, or even up grading their own should hear all of the information regarding some of the older technology lights (which are cheaper now for a reason) and the new technology lights. In no way am I trying to get into a contest about which is better, because like I said earlier, of course the new lights are going to be better both in functionality and options.

My point is, I just want to keep the conversation objective. And the statement above about the AI sol representing itself as something that it doesn't simply isn't true.

When you combine all of these other LEDs in various colors, what is the ultimate kelvin that is being shot for?

The goal is to emphasize the color of the corals, using red and purple leds does what a purple t5 bulb does, brings out the orange, red, pinks in your corals. Having the green led is for emphasizing the green and yellow colors like using a ge 6500k t5 bulb. It's a matter of complimenting your corals to achieve a wider spectrum of colors you see. A little goes a long way with these newer led diodes.

I understand that, but all spectrum of light, or kelvin already contains green, yellow, and red or else we wouldn't see those colors at all.

When all of the lights are turned on at once, then the blend has to have some kelvin rating.

Just curious what that kelvin rating is by introducing these various supplemental lights.

IDK if RapidLED is cheaper than ReefLEDlights they are about the same price and Bill will work with you on the pricing and it sometimes is cheaper than RapidLED...
