Wildisme's 80g twin display build

Okay. So decided to head out to the garage for a bit. Added all my vertical corner braces.
Sat on the center of the 2x4 and wiggled. No movement.

So rather than completely over engineer this thing I added my center brace a bit different to allow a little more room for the sump. Stand is all finished up. Once in place I'm not sure if I will wrap it with a thin wood and paint, thin wood and vinyl, or drywall it and finish it to the wall and floor as if it is a permanent structure.

I know I plan on moving later this summer so I'm not sure if I want to go through all that work yet or not.

Been busy on this thing. Got the piping all cut dry fit, then glued. Got the overflow pipes painted and the top of the overflows painted. Then started painting the tanks. Think I'll add 2 more coats on the tanks then hopefully find time to make the switch this weekend.

I did go back with a sponge brush and got paint up into the trim area so that gap of black is already filled in. Did 2 coats last night with sponge and roller. Then did a third coat before I left for work this morning. Think one or two more and it should be good to go.

Its gonna be a really cool setup man - I love the 40B, and 2 of them is twice as cool!

Thanks. I love the shallow look but wanted a larger tank. And I've wanted seahorses for years. So last year I came up with the idea of doing the 2 next to each other to give a long but shallow panoramic look while being able to have both my reef and seahorses.

Another thing I'm looking into is the flow. I'll have around 400gph per tank to the sump, but I also will have 1 MP10wes on each. I'm wondering I can still get decent flow if I put the mp10s on the back of the tank instead of on the ends. Hoping to keep it where no equipment is seen at all. But idk if I can get decent flow throughout having it blow front to back instead of long ways.

Any thought or experience is welcome.

So i had to google that sign.

Its true. Im getting one of those. My daughter takes naps and doorbells or knocks make my dog go berzerk. Always on guard duty

The sign on your black gate.

The displays are looking nice. Any idea about how to not get the mirror look between both tanks? Also are you stuck using suction cup power heads on those ends touching each other? Do you have a power head placement? Hows tbe supply going to run?
I would actually run a split down where they meet and point them away to opposite ends of each tank.

Im sure youve thougt this out

With the mirror look I'm not too sure I don't know of any way to eliminate that.

The returns will be ran with a pump for each ran with a hose to a pre made over the top return nozzle. Both returns will be next to each other in the center to give flow from the ends that touch. Then I'll have an MP10 on each far end. Just debating on putting them on the sides of the tank, or on rear facing front so I don't see any equipment at all.

I chose to run separate pumps to eliminate a few things. One is that both pumps allow me to adjust flow so I can change flow on each tank on top of adjusting flow on each tank with mp10s. Also for the sea horses, I can cut flow from the pump before feeding without disrupting the reef tank. Rather flip a switch on my power supply than have to mess with ball valves when I feed

Well things have been put on hold. I was hoping to have everything switched last weekend. Didn't happen and this weekend is looking a bit busy as well. Everything is ready to go, just a matter of making the switch over to the new tanks.

Until then here is a quick video of the current tank setup. Don't forget this tank will be for sale as soon as I make the switch. It will come with the live sand and a bit of rock as well if someone wants a tank with almost no cycle time!

Tanks are switched over. Reef tank is running. Seahorse tank is half filled. Gotta make more water. All the fish and anemones are acclimated and in, 2 buckets of coral are acclimating now.
Lights, one pump, skimmer, etc are all setup. Mixing more water tonight. Then filling second tank rest of way and setting up second pump. Went way minimal on rock. Still have a few to add with corals attached that are acclimating.

Have 25lbs of live rock ready to go! $40

50-60lbs of live sand ready to go
$30

And old hex tank ready to go $300 or $350 with rock and sand.

Gonna end up buying another Sol for sure. We setup lights centered over each tank and it's just not enough. So I'll be adding a third for even coverage. Don't think 4 is needed.

On a side note. Found my anemone that I thought was dead. He came out today and was on the same rock he was on before just staying in the back. He is still about 2-3" wide, tentacles are only little nubs and he is almost all white with a hint of green. But he is alive.

Well the tanks have been running for a few weeks now. Got my ATO setup. I have a rack mount power supply that failed on me. Luckily I was home at the time and heard everything shut down. Ended up picking up two new ones and splitting the load a little better now.

As far as stock I have a few new corals added as well as a small yellow tang. For some reason I lost all 3 of my shrimp. First was the peppermints, and I figured maybe the Michaels pistol had killed them. Then a week later the Michaels just came up dead. Nothing noticeable on any of the bodies and the fish looked as tho they had no interest in them. No nips or missing parts either. So I'm not too sure what's going on with that.

Found a new AI Sol, however I'm looking at the new AI Prime HD units and think I'm switching to those to get a full spectrum light.

Other than that the tank is doing pretty good. Pond is still getting a lot of my attention as I'm still working out the new filtration setup and having some issues with that. Then I'm building a new closet on the wall directly behind the tank in the next room. Once that's done I can get the stand and canopy finished up as I'm moving some electrical around when I do the closet and will need access to the wall behind the tank.

Xmas comes early again tomorrow. Last month it was pond plants. Tomorrow is a new light, and a full case of corals! Pictures will be added once corals are in the tank of course.
