Hi. I am not sure if you have made up your mind yet but I will offer some advice too. You can also use your controller to top off multiple ways. Another option is to use the main unit as a timer for ATO. Depending on evaporation rates and your ATO pump speed you could figure out how many seconds/minutes you would need the pump to operate to compensate for evaporation rates each day. With a little testing/adjusting over the course of a week I have found it to be just as accurate as a float switch. Using the controller this way would save you the cost of a JBJ ATO unit, a heater controller, and a float switch. You can also setup a "if/else statement" for the heater. Meaning, if the temperature reaches X it will turn off a power outlet to make sure the temperature is stable. Controllers help keep your basic water parameters (lighting, temp, salinity) much more stable and offer both redundancy and fail safe. IMO a worthwhile investment.
Thank you Jeff. Ultimately I would definitely like to have a controller its just a financial issue that is why i will be looking for a deal on a used one until the last minute and if i havent found one ill end up getting a heater controller and seperate ato. I just feel that in my budget $300 could be better allocated to different equipment.
sweet brandon I like the new tank alot. I just started cycling your 75 that you sold me about a month ago. as for skimmers I bought the 302 and im loving it. for the price of getting a new skimmer with a new pump is kind of a steal but ive never owed high end skimmer to really compare. I also like the taller stand a lot thats the only reason I dont like the 75 lol.
Thanks theres still alot to do gonna drill it this weekend then i have to clean the tank and sump real good get a new baffle cut and siliconed move the small tanks to other parts of the house then set the new tank in its permanent spot get the plumbing done then go on an equipment shopping spree! lol. yeah we didnt like that about the 75 the stand is short and the tank itself is short too. dont you have a 120 in the works? so you have the SCA302? how is she doing? im going to have probably 115g total water volume minus rock and such do you think the skimmer is capable of handling that size tank? I would love to save over $150 and go with that skimmer versus a swc or bubble magus.
