Keep checking back often as I will update post#1 and 2 to provide as much info about my tank as I can. Note that I will also be including hyperlinks throughout my write up for more information on my equipment.

Thanks again everyone!

Perfect. Thanks. I have a couple pieces of branch and a bonsai. Also have dr tims. Just trying to figure out pros/cons to just using those pieces and some of the man made real reef rock to start the tank. Patiently waiting for the damn reef flakes to make it here on the slow boat from toboingboing or wherever.

Thanks Lil BamBam (Dre)! The dimension were what sold me on the tank. Wish I could have got the 160XL

Beautiful Tank!

What's up CR? Cant believe it's been a long time since I last updated my thread. Well theres been lots of changes to my tank and I will start with the biggest change.. Over the summer I had to replace both my ballast for my Giesemann Spectra, after replacing them one went out after a few weeks....guess I was the lucky winner of a lemon. I bought them from Coral Vue so I wasn't concern because they replaced it asap. This actually turned me off and was planning on switching to full blown LEDs. I spoke to a few friends and got a few recommendations after that I reached out to some vendors and couldn't believe what some of these vendor were asking. This was also about the time I had also put the fixture up for sale. Well that didn't go well either because the offers that were coming were a complete joke:mario: At this point I gave up on selling my fixture and buying an LEDs fixture. After going back and forth, my buddy jayjigga convinced me to turn the Giesemann Spectra into a dimmable fixture. Well we did and now my Giesemann is T5 dimmable. I'm glad I kept the fixture and did this simple modification.

The fixture before going under the knife :butcher:

I removed all the wires since it needed to be re-wired with longer wires since I wasn't going to add extension and make it look crappy. I also took this time to re-wire how the T5 bulbs turn on. Before the T5 were set up to turn on 2 fronts and then the 2 back T5 now one T5 in the front turns on with one T5 in the back. So basically bulb 1 and 3 are together on one channel and 2 and 4 are on another channel if that makes sense.

Look at that professional wiring diagram :sparta-lol:

I am extremely anal about how I do stuff and did my best to make sure the wiring was professionally done just like when I took it apart. I believe I achieved my goal.

Testing it on the Apex before putting it back together.

Big thanks to jayjigga for helping out on this project. If it wasn't for Jay I wouldn't have had the guts to do something like this. This was a bada$$ fixture but now it's even more BadA$$. :amen:

More to come later but Ill leave a couple pictures of some awesome corals

Lookin good! You'll be happy to stick with halides/T5. I keep trying LEDs, but keep going back to the proven stuff.
