FishBeard's 180g Wall'o'Tank!

sharp razor blades/holder/water

Brand new blade in a metal holder. I was suggested to try running a hot hair dryer on the area I'm scraping, I'll try that after lunch. Then on to checking the seals on the bulkheads before moving the tank into place and starting to fill it with what little water I already have mixed.

Thanks, also Mark"itekt" has volunteered his expert aquascaping skills once i get more liverock. So I'm pretty excited about how the rockwork is going to turn out having a 2nd opinion during setup.

awesome bro.. I cnt wait until u stock this bad boy up.lol Was wondering hows ur frogfish tank?

Frogfish passed a few weeks back. Not sure what happened, it wasn't starvation I know that. Possibly overfeeding, or just random loss. I'll never know for sure. Likely the rock and livestock will be moved to the 180 and the nano will be shelved or used for QT.

im sorry to hear that bro..

Nice to know I have such good taste ;) That things gonna be a beast. And do you know what kind of paint it is? Knowing the type can help determine the removal.

Yea I showed the old lady a pic of your tank with that background and she was like wow, do that. The paint almost has a latex interior property to it, and was brushed on so I'm sure it came from a can not spray. I'm gonna hit the hardware store anyways for other items, and see if there is some paint remover I can use that won't damage the plastic trim or wood stand if it drips.

I have about 300lbs of bali dead or dry rock for sale from my brother
asking $2 per lb if you need..
let me know thanks

I heat gun might do the trick better than a hairdryer. They make a water soluble paint stripper I think.

No need

Don't do it! I wouldn't want you to use and toxic chemicals that could harm future residents.

All you need is a little elbow grease and a sharp scrapper. I bought mine at walmart and it worked like hot butter thru a knife!! LOL

For the details I used my wifes nail polish remover........SHHHHH! don't tell!

Sure you dont want to use chemicals but he was looking. Scraping is the best way and its a ***** cause it takes awhile. Windex would help but you don't want to get that in the tank either. It works wonders in stubborn stickers on glass.

Day 3 update from yesterday:

First up, Scraped about another sq./ft of paint off the glass, I'm buying a different scraper after work today now that I've gotten the hang of it. I'm using a narrow little 1/2" blade, going to step it up to a utility blade holder and make quick work of the rest. The hair dryer was working a little, I'm having a heat gun brought over today as well to soften the paint.

Next up I finally decided on my skimmer. Going to try out the new(er) Warner Marine MF201. Mark(itekt) probably wanted to punch me thru my phone texting last night for not buying the super reef octopus, but I really like the way this one is designed, has an internal pump and pulls around 1300 liters of air at only 17w of power. Jon Warner and team came up with a proprietary bubble plate design that is supposed to minimize turbulence, and the kitschy feature of this skimmer is the water effluent comes out the bottom plate of the skimmer thru a plate gate valve with insanely fine tuning adjustment, which is intended to minimize micro bubbles escaping the skimmer.

And finally before crashing for the night, I got my order in for substrate. Going with trusty old seaflor special grade. It's bagged dry, typical grain size of 1-2mm, and once rinsed off and in the tank, looks great. I just couldn't justify the price for reef flakes, as beautiful as it is, it's still just sand. I got 120# for $105. The flakes would have been $150. And this is just the first 120#, I may want to add more sand once I see just how deep this first load is in the tank. Also ordered myself a bigger mag float for the 1/2" glass. I'll likely buy one of those piranha or hammerhead ones when they go on sale, the wooden dry side will look good with the oak furniture on this tank.
