FishBeard's 180g Wall'o'Tank!

You might try a bag of ice on the paint too. If you can get it cold enough it might get brittle and come off in pieces. I guess it would be pretty tough to tip the whole thing forward so you are working on a horizontal surface? That would help with blood in your arms too. This is a great build thread by the way.

Day 4 update:

Got my adjustable durso drains from Menards, total cost: $11 +tax.

Also bought a utility blade scraper, so I will make quick(er) work of that paint tonight with assistance of a heat gun and some mechanics gloves, lol!

Are they going to be tall enough might get the waterfall effect look good tho bud.getting that tank up fast lol

There are already 1" standpipes that extend halfway up in the overflows from those goofy foam float overflow things. I will actually need to extend these a bit to raise the water level in the overflows. I did also buy an extra 1" pipe to have on hand in case I needed it.

Go George Go
You'll be operational long before me
I hate when work gets in the way
Looks good

I know all about it, I only have so much time to work on the tank after work, before dealin with the kid and other stuff. Trying to bust *** to get this new tank up and running ASAP.

Paint is finally gone! 1200 degree heat gun and a sharp scraper made quick work, like a knife thru butter. Just gotta do a quick once over and clean the glass and I can move the tank into position on the wall.

As soon as the sand comes in, I can toss the first batch of water in and start running the DI directly into the tank. Hopefully I can have salt mixing by the weekend!

Ok, everyones saying great build thread, but here's my beef:aetsch:
No pics of the paint scraping, what are you doing with it for sump, skimmer, etc.
I'm following cause I want to go big too. And my beef is :aetsch: I really don't have one but really want more pics to see where you at. Its funny how everyone wants pics around here. I gave 10 pics in my build, equipment and some other things, but I don't get responses like you, so i guess I got to go bigger. Lol.

Here's a stinkin' picture for you guys...

Sand came in today. Between these 3 bags, and the extra 15 lbs I have leftover in the garage from the last tank, I should get a good 1"+ bed from this. Now I just need extra hands to move the tank in position and start filling it up.

thats a pretty sweet setup, i just bought my parts to attempt to make a durso drain.

my overflow is loud as can be at the moment.. drives me nuts.

What overflow setup do you have? Mine had those goofy floats with the tapered cut that would slide up and down a stationary pipe. I couldn't see that arrangement being very quiet, so I figured do it right from the start and build the dursos. I need to drill holes in the caps today as well as decide if the ~100# of sand is enough, or crack open the last 40# bag and use all the sand I have. I've got about 20g of DI in the tank, another ~30g ready to go in after work, then I'm hooking the rodi up next to the tank and will begin running it nonstop until the tank is full. I'm noticing more scratches on the glass than initially, but nothing too major, it's not like I paid a ton for the setup, and I keep the glass pretty clean anyways, so it likely won't be an issue.

i have a built in overflow, but it drops so far down you can hear the water splashing and it keeps creating bubbles that get sucked down to my refuge.

Nothing says "HUGE" until you see it in person. That is one nice tank! If it's going to be anything like your 60 it's going to be phenomenal!!!
I also like your idea of acclimation for the tank swap.... If I had only thought of that before "wasting" so much water!!!!

Meh, it's still a nano tank compared to some members tanks! Im hoping this new one will end up as nice as the 60, I have high hopes for this build.

Yea, I figured it's just water, what better way to acclimate than just use the 60 as the acclimation container? LOL, it should work anyways.

I was wondering what was floating inside the tank - took me a while to realize it was a reflection of the cube tank - looking forward to the build.
