I am putting a tank toghter for my friend its his 1st saltwater tank we got the 150gal drilled with power heads,skimmer no good dont like it,73lbs of live rock quartine it now,light no good for coral,15w uv light all for 200$ new light we got for 50$ and guy gave us a skimmer,wet dry we need $50-100$and 40$ for salt so we are into the tank around 400$ thats a good deal and the hobby dont cost alot when just the tank at the store will cost 1000+. This is why I sell my livestock and food so cheap to keep the avg person in the hobby dont have to be rich to have a killer tank unless you want it all toghter in 2-3days.

To each their own... I want the best. And the best is usually expensive. So if I buy a $2000 tank and put it for sale 4 months later for $1700, that's a deal. And if no one buys it. Oh well. I'll sit on it. I'm not giving my stuff away anymore. I can care less if people are broke or whatever their reasoning is. U can def do the hobby cheap. Not arguing that. But myself, I will not cheap out on anything. But I'm also the person that will pay $1000 for a chalice that is 1/4" by 1/4"...

I'm not saying I'm better then anyone else... And I always hook people up when they buy stuff from me... And everyone who has bought from me can attest to that.
 
This is the way I look at the FS threads:

"item for sale" $XXXX < notice no mention of OBO (must mean this is the price they are asking)

"item for sale" $XXXX/ Firm < still no mention of OBO (No negotiations here are there)

"item for sale" $XXXX/OBO < clearly stated OBO (hmmm must be willing to negotiate price)

So in my observations of FS threads, I am going to go out on a limb and say unless it's stated in the FS thread, prices are what they are as posted. If you feel the need or desire to try to get a bargain on prices that are usually lower than retail. I would think that maybe instead of pissing and moaning about the items price in the thread or how much money you dont have for it you'd send a PM. Then again that's just me............Maybe if you wait it out on something you think is too high priced and give it some time the seller might (and usually does) lower the price trying to move it along. Maybe even SAVE FOR THE ITEM and buy it when you can AFFORD it (I know that's one h3ll of a concept in itself)

I feel the same way, I'll sit on it before I give it away. I already paid for it .............It's not costing me anything, just taking up space.

see now i think that 100 to 125 bucks off of a skimmer is a great deal and before i let a 400 buck skimmer go for 150 to 200 i would take it in the backyard and plant a flower in it but thats just me. Now anyone who has came to my house to get something for the most part gets a freebie hell i gave a complete system away not that long ago and corals that were in it to other people. **** me and lunacris trade stuff all the time. I just come to a point that i see im so poor, you are to far, would you take this much for it threads and it gets old
 
jay ill take it but ur too far !! thats drives me nuts why even say anything at that point . if u want it ask can u meet . if u think it will cost u more in gas or take your valuable time then dont post ! i dont care how far u are or how much gas costs if u wanna buy and i really wanna sell i prob will meet ya .dont waste time saying ur too far . its childish like a kid saying i wish i could get this when at the store , u want it but wanna beat around a bush get a f'n job kid or ask for it !! worst answer could be no. has nothing to do with topic but i felt like a random rant .i feel better now

Haha I laugh everytime I see someone post that. Most of the time I'm driving to pick stuff up.
 
I have some kind of syndrome that causes me to fall asleep driving on the highway. That's why I'm always asking folks if they're ever coming to myarea. I'd rather not die for a coral. They always leave with a freebie & not something like a brown paly.
 
I never deliver... Unless I've either dealt with u before, really wanna get rid of it or in the area. But I'm not driving out of my way to sell u something. Just my opinion
 
im not saying to deliver .. but if u dont ask can we meet somewhere ? you shouldnt post aww man good deal but ur too far is all im saying
 
The only time i write im to poor in some thread is when im good friends with person and goofing with them. 100$ off of anything is a good deal if i want a skimmer that is 500$ and can get it for 400$ used thats 100$ i can spend on a fish or coral im sure most average people will agree . Im by no means poor and by no means rich i just work hard for my money and will save where i can if u so rich that u rather by new then save few dollars god bless u for being in that position . But whats not a deal for u might be the only way a guy like me evenvthink about getting it. Imo i have more issues with the regulars here then the newbies and get haggled diwn on prices more by the guys coming over in lexus and mercedez the the kid coming in a pinto that is just been my experiance though

can't say i've needed to haggle with the handful of people i've got stuff from at ridiculously cheap prices. Most of the time I've ended up coming home with more than I thought I was getting for a few bucks!
