Kerber13's 120 gal upgrade

Everybody after a long thinking session in the shower I stepped back from the tank and decided to slow it down. I've realized I have all summer y am I going so fast. So instead of accepting marks amazing offer and instead of using fun lads killer metal halides I am going to go with LEDs I want to avoid the chiller cost and electricity is so **** expensive that it'll help my family out tremendously. I've realized that I don't want to cut corners and I feel LEDs can grow SPS just as well as MHs can. Thanks for looking all!
 
Not a bad choice really. I was going to go with LED's, but the initial cost was way too much for me to be comfortable with right now. Later down the line, yes. Not to mention, I have a tiny tank. So running two dual lamp T5HO units is not really all that bad. LED's will look good on that tank. And nothing wrong with taking all summer to get it done. You still have the 55 to look at until then.;)

Hey guys bit of an update..
1. I set up my QT tank today...got the whole system for free...it's relatively simple but effective.

Im gonna throw some rubble rock in the canisters on the filter and then throw some PVC in the tank for hiding gonna be barebottom obvi.
2. Decided to go with 2x SPS-55 from prestige-LED i proposed 3 green 3 red 3 UV 15 CW 7 NW 16 RB 8 B hopefully this wont be too much of a probem... Till next time thanks yall!
 
Man you would have posted this sooner i would have gave you a small koralia or rio for some circulation ut lke you said have all summer

I didn't know i was gonna throw a QT together but i decided to in the last week idk if u saw what happened in MMreefs tank but his moorish had ich and killed almost all his livestock...I definitely dont want that and the price was free so it was a double awesome... yep all summer for this project...
 
Erik and FishBeard just finished drilling the 120. Two 1" holes on opposite ends with two 3/4" holes about three inches towards the center from each of the centers. He'll have pictures in a bit I'm sure. :D
 
Yep I'm on my phone should be up in about an hour gotta clean both tanks up. Also it's Erik* errybody gets it wrong xP

not sure if u can see the holes in the last one...also the pics of the fish and the coral will be a lot better because my cousin has a really nice camera with a macro lense...something for u to look forward too :P

DUDE dont do that to me...just had a mini-heart attack also id like to say a HUGE thanks to fishbeard...he is truly the master of drilling holes in aquariums!
 
Sorry; that's for the halides! :lol: Seriously though, looks great, and I can't wait to start the plumbing on this monster. Sell me some of that pocillopora and we can get going that much sooner!

lol I was going to almost laugh if it was reversed.....but I know fishbeards work so that wouldn't happen

How big is the QT system?

Lol. All that for your dog? I thought you had a small child runnin' round somewhere.

Where are you going to get your bulkheads from? If you are looking for somewhere, look at the ones from MarineDepot.com. I got a couple from there, and they are beastly.

You have a floor plan for the 40b yet?

That drilling job looks good man.

The Qt setup is 20 gallons...yes all that for my dog (he's very spoiled xD...I was thinking Bulk Reef Supply but ill check em out on marine depot..yes i have a rough kinda estimate on what the sump is going to look like (from left to right---refugium-bubble trap-return-bubble trap-skimmer and equipment)

Yep. Your QT holds almost more water than my system. Lol. I may have it beat by 2 gallons. I don't have experience with the ones from BRS, but I may check them out. OK. I checked them out. The ABS bulkheads look like the ones I got from marine depot. as for your sump, you may want to change it up a bit. Left to Right intake, skimmer and equipment, bubble trap, return, fuge. You can feed your fuge off of the return via a "T" connection so you wont have a ton of water going through it fast as all get out. http://www.melevsreef.com/ That site is pretty good for some sump designs. I got mine off of there and tweeked it a bit. Might be worth looking into for your tank. :)
