My 50 Cadlights Cube Artisan 2 Build

Dominick, the tank is looking AWESOME! I can't wait to see you add more stuff to it. What was that fish that you got at RCA? It's cool! :D

Thanks Ben. I'm going to wait a couple more days before adding anything else. The new nem I added decided to tour my tank last night lol! I woke up this morning to find it on a rock, in a complete opposite part of the tank lmao! It chose a good spot though so as long as it stays, I'll be happy.

The fish from RCA is a Smith's Blenny. Really cool lil guy!

I am liking you aquascape thumbs on it. It is real simple and simplicity is what I like. Keep up to good work.

LOL, love 'nems... my octopus 'nem nemmed about the day after I took out the barriers around it! Bugger was just waiting, I swear it's already plotting its escape.... Luckily its foot is too fat to move much past where its gotten... I hope - otherwise it will be eating 3 rock nems for dinner with a blasto a paly frag for dessert...

Beautiful so far though, keep us posted!

Thanks Juan. One of the things with scaping cubes is that it's very difficult lol! I went on reef central and there's a ridiculously long "minimalist aquascaping" thread that was extremely helpful in finding inspiration. Thanks again!

Haha! That thing is crazy looking! Right before Jeff bought it, I was checking it out and can honestly say I've never seen one before. Back at the LFS I worked at a long time ago, I used to go to the distributor to pick out fish and inverts and would always see weird stuff. Never would get any because our clientele would have never been interested. I'm glad you grabbed that nem. It's such a cool specimen! I'll probably add in the rock nems either today or tomorrow. Depends on how lazy I am :p

So I've been looking at the Kessil A360W's. The controllability, sleekness, and tech in the light is pretty amazing.

I emailed their customer service and here is the response I got from them. For reference I asked if one 360W would be sufficient for SPS and gave them the footprint of this tank. I also asked if they had any par readings/measurements.

Dom:

Thank you for your interest in Kessil lights!

Yes, one A360W will be more than sufficient to provide for SPS in your tank.

We do not take PAR measurements of our lights, as PAR is an inaccurate measuring tool for LEDs in general and our lights in particular. PAR measures the average of all light between 400 and 700 nanometers. LEDs produce light at singular, specific nanometer values. Our lights use a combination of LEDs mounted on our proprietary Dense Matrix LED™ chip. It enables blending the output of all LEDs by their going through a single lens, thereby being made into a single light source that is thoroughly blended before leaving the light. Our lights are spectrally tuned to only those spectral portions thorough testing have proven are most beneficial to coral growth and color. This is the lower third of the nanometer range measured by a PAR reader. Since as noted above a PAR reading is taken from the average over the entire span between 400 and 700 nanometers, a light without two-thirds of this range will produce a low PAR reading that does not correctly show the light's actual effect on coral growth and color.

With the A360, our new light, you are able to control both spectrum and intensity with a compatible 0~10V external controller. Compatible units include, but are not necessarily limited to, the Neptune Systems Apex and Digital Aquatics ReefKeeper series. The light features Kessil Logic™, our proprietary onboard intelligence that enables a far smoother intensity across the light's entire user-tunable spectral range than previously obtainable. The A360 lights have up to 30% more brightness at the low and high end of this range.

Our lights make corals pop color-wise with our proprietary UV blend. In the same way that we react to UV rays coming from the sun by tanning to prevent skin damage, corals react to UV light by coloring as a way to protect themselves. Our UV blend provides the exact right amount and spectrum within the UV range that best stimulates coral color while presenting no danger of excessive UV rays damaging them. The lights also can be tuned to light, or sky, blue to deep blue, or actinic blue as it is commonly called, to enhance coral growth and appearance.

Thank you again for your interest in Kessil!

just a small suggestion though.

get the regular A360 instead of A360w.. the beam is narrow but more intense and yours being a cube you can hang it a little higher but the more intensity in A360 should suffice for it.

That's the only issue. I want to hang it lower.

but why ?

for a 24 inch cube i think about around 16 inches from water level for a regular A360..

I'm shooting for 8" above the water line, which is what the 360W spreads at 2'X2'.

I don't really want to go much higher than that.

Quick update:

Everything seems to be doing well in the tank. The nem decided to go for a stroll the first night, but it chose a really nice spot.

Still have yet to add anymore corals into the tank. I'm giving the new nem a couple days to make sure it's not going to move again, for now lol!

Equipment wise, I have a tlf 150 reactor that I'll run gfo in, I also picked up my K1 media. Still haven't figured out the best way to use it, but I'm sure I'll come up with something. Also placed an order for the Kessil A360W. I did the programming in the apex already. I'm sure I'll have to fine tune it, but for now it's done. I did something pretty dumb when ordering the kessil though, I placed it and the controller cable in my cart, looked at the cart and it said two items. So without paying attention I checked out. I look at the order confirmation and total and was like, WTF? I had placed a bucket of red sea coral pro in my cart 3 weeks ago, didn't realize it was still in there because my cart only had two items. I called the next morning to have them cancel it but they said it was too late.

I'll be doing a WC this evening. I also plan on figuring out how to plumb in this reactor. Maybe this weekend I'll start adding in my other corals. I really need to because my 27 is getting taken down and am switching tanks to a custom Will aquarium which I have just sitting on the floor next to me. I'm just lazy as hell right now lol!

Quick update time:

The tank has been doing pretty good. All parameters are in check. I received the kessil a360W yesterday, took down my IT2040, hung the kessil, plugged it into the apex, turned the outlets on, and bam, it worked right away. My initial impression since my IT2040 was on full daylight mode was meh, I didn't like it. I brought the IT2040 over to my 27 gallon and started changing the lights out, then decided to take a quick look at the kessil again. As soon as I walked into the room I was pretty amazed at the light! The shimmer is awesome, and the color couldn't be any better. I tweaked the profiles a bit in the apex and took a pic and a video.

This video was shot while the blues are ramping up to afternoon sun: Click on the photo for a video.

Here is a shot when the kessil is in afternoon sun mode:

So far I'm really pleased with the light. It truly is like sunlight underwater.

I picked up a second mp40wes and will be adding that to the tank tomorrow night. I know, that's a lot of flow, but I was seeing some areas where a second vortech would add in some additional currents.

If anyone is interested in the coding I used for the kessil and programs, let me know and I'll post them.

I also added most of my sps to the tank as I'm sure you'll see the frag rack chilling out in the left upper part of the tank. Those will go into the semi permanent locations very soon.

I'll get some good pics of everything once stuff is settled into its final location. I just really want to wait because I had the first bta I bought take a walk on me. I'm sure they'll go for a stroll once I add this second vortech in.

Looks good, those Kessil lights have some amazing shimmer.

Thanks Mark! I was hesitant to buy one because they're pretty expensive for what they are, but once I set it up and walked away for a bit, then came back I was completely sold on it!

I figured I would just go ahead and post the profiles anyways since I'm not feeling lazy right now lol!

The varspeed outlets are programmed for two separate settings, one is for color, the other for intensity or brightness:
