screen top done.....

not sure how I feel about the white screen frame yet.....may have to redo it in black if it doesn't float my boat soon....
Idk looks good matches stand not sure if black would look better or worse

Would look better if there was anyway to paint the bottom trim of the tank white. Mayb put some painters tape and paint that. That way u don't do it on the tank. Plus when u take it off it should leave some adhesive behind

03/29/2015 Update: Transfer Day :)

well....the day for transferring my tank back home is finally here....

all loaded up and headed for home:

unloaded and ready for their new home:

all fish were bagged up and floated for 30 minutes...since the SG was exactly the same as the old tank, all rocks and corals were dropped in without any acclimation at all as I have done in the past...

and now...... insta-reef: (this is NOT the final aqua-scape)

when I get more time next weekend, I will attempt to figure out an actual aqua-scape as what you see now is just a random placement in order to get everything in ASAP...

I'm really diggin' the footprint of this DB 80G frag tank.....and it's great to have my babies back!!!

Looking good!

It's amazing that your tank looks better in 2 hours than mine does in 2 months after a transfer.

Can't wait to see it in person.

nice work, what's in the small acclimation basket?
thanks Josh....I have a second pair of snowflake clowns in there....I'm working on setting up another tank soon which will be their new and permanent home :)
for now, this is the only way to keep them from my breeding pair of snows and viewing the next Mortal Combat episode....

Wow a lot has happened in the last few days, hope everything is happy in there new home

Tom
thanks Tom....it took forever to get to this point, but once the tank was ready.....insta-reef!!!

hmmmm....random placed rocks .... i actually really like what look you have now if i could randomly place rocks in my tank and it look like that id be happy !!! cant wait to see what you do with the scape !

ha.....it's always when you're NOT trying that you come up with something someone likes.......
truth is I want to somehow figure out two aqua-scaped forms...one for my BTAs and the other for my SPS...with my shrooms randomly scattered around the sandbed....
this way I can reduce the chances of the nems stinging the SPS colonies....

I hope I can may this work with what I have....

04/02/2015 New Addition :)

so I had some business to attend to up in the Milwaukee area this week and decided to stop by and check out Best Fish....very impressed with this store.
Selection of livestock and dry goods was incredible....

While checking out the fish selections I noticed a
Half Black Mimic Tang (Acanthurus chronixis) which is one of my favorite "do not have" fish, so naturally, I bought it...lol

It is currently in my sump now for observation and to be sure it adjusts nicely and is eating, which is appears to be doing...

Of note regarding Best Fish: I especially enjoyed how well and thought out their livestock prices was laid out :) Every coral and fish is clearly marked with a price as well as the date the fish was received in the store...what a wonderful idea!!!!!!.....prices AND length of time fish was there!!!....wish this was a universal procedure....

okay....so it been a week now and there are already some things I am finding that I need to adjust to....

with this being my first rimless tank, I am finding that I hate the look of the screen top as it stands....because I absolutely need a screen top, I will have to look further into designing something a bit more appealing...and definitely NOT WHITE....

I also feel like I am always cleaning the top edges of the glass...maybe once I have less need to put my hand in the tank and mess with stuff this won't be as much of a chore as it feels now but I like my stuff to be clean looking and the rimless does appear to require much more attention...

on the other hand, I absolutely love having the 40G breeder sump in an open fish room....so easy to work around and with so much space available in it, compared to my former 20G sump, I'm enjoying the ability to use a section of it as an observation tank for new additions... :thumb:

all in all I am still thrilled with this tank... ;)

okay....so, I'm about to start the process of re-aquascaping...
my plan is to try and create three unattached sections, one of which to house all my BTAs in an attempt to keep them away form all other corals.
Ideally I would like one section of SPS/LPS, one section of shrooms and the last as mentioned, all BTAs...

wish me luck... :thumb:

Yes I have to do that also with the edges of my 30g. I clean it every other day when I clean the glass so it's not that bad. And as for the screen top, if u make it black u can make it so it fits inside the tank instead of on top. Just need to ge some small pieces of acrylic and glue them on the frame. The acrylic will hold on to the glass on ur tank and make the top look like its floating. Also by having it that way the mesh will cover the overflow. That will help keep out the fish from jumping in the overflow.
