My new 140 custom GLA tank build

Naw, you're not the only one whose killed a fish or two in Qt. I had some very mysterious deaths when I first setup mine. :(

Sorry to hear that, but thanks for the encouragement. The scary part is if you can't ever figure out what killed them, you don't have a clue how to fix it.

Really exciting news today! Ready????
I finally have some nitirites in the QT that I'm cycling!!! :dancing2:

OK, not that exciting for the rest of you.

Today my QT is finally showing no ammonia or nitrite. Ready, finally, to add some fish in a couple of days. Just doing a final test by adding some ammonia to double check.

Also, my custom tank, stand and canopy are due to be delivered on Saturday. I ordered from Great Lakes Aquariums outside of Detroit. Not only did I get a great price, but excellent service as well. The owner, Steve, emailed me this morning and told me that their shipper has a big shipment that they are getting out and wouldn't be able to ship the tank until the end of next week. Well, Steve felt really bad about the delay so he said that they would bring it out themselves! I'm really happy because if there is a problem with anything, what better then to have the manufacturer right here when it's delivered by him?

I'll post pictures on Saturday.

Long route? I'm like five minutes from you!
You are welcome to come by anytime, George. I have lots of grandkids here to entertain him with, too! (ages 1,3,5,and 7)

It's here, and I can't be happier. The tank, cabinet and canopy are beautiful. The seams are flawless, and Great Lakes Aquarium did a fantastic job.

Here are some pictures.

With all of the cabinet doors open. The left side canopy and stand doors open as well.

The canopy front can also flip up so my short arms can get in there for maintenance when necessary.

The black silicone looks great, and there is extra bracing on the bottom along the frame. The overflow is very shallow so it doesn't take up much real-estate inside the tank. Also I don't have the plumbing in, but the return has duel outlets at two levels, so I can aim them in opposite directions, but also can get flow on two different levels.

Tonight I am going to put in the drain, return, and bulkheads and check for leaks in the plumbing. I won't have the sump that I purchased for a couple of weeks, but I think I will probably fill this baby up tomorrow, below the overflow inlet, to check for leaks, and then start cycling the tank while I'm waiting for the sump.

Thanks. It's a relief that it is here and no problems came up. You always worry about how it is going to look, and if it will meet expectations. I'm glad I don't have to think of that anymore.

BEE-U-TEE-FUL! Can't wait til it's up and running so I can stop over and check it out!

So what's your plans for outside the back glass?

I've been thinking really hard about what to put on the back glass. I wanted something unique. After looking around for some ideas I found this!
It was on sale for only $59.95

What do you think?

Just kidding! It will be the standard solid black. I'm using the vinyl that sucks in against the tank if you put salad oil under it. I've done it before, and it looks pretty good. I didn't want to spray paint. The tank is too heavy and I'm too lazy to carry it outside to do it. Also, if I ever have to look into the overflow from the back of the tank it's removable.

Tank looks amazing Marilyn !!. Your sump should be ready for pick up next weekend,I will keep you posted.
